sounds just like what the fs did up around lake burton about five years ago, no warning and no explination.

I have no experience with this kind of thing... but...

Just WHO IS the "someone" responsible for this, someone we can go see... is it a committee that decides to close trails? a person?

who plays golf with this person? who goes to his church, or fishes with him? Seems like there should be a way to find out what his 'problem' is, and address it.

??

Before this get too far out of hand we need some experienced eyes on the issue. HD is a great guy and I trust what I am hearing but he's only been there a single time, I'm sure he'd like as would I some confirmation so WHO LIVES IN THE AREA?????? I'd do it myself but it's 2.5 hrs away and up to my eyeballs in other projects.

Oh man.. This is the first place I got to experience the fun of wheeling. I'm gonna be mighty upset if it gets shut down!

Smokeymtn also lives there. His name is Adam. $out name is Tommy.

I talked with Tommy just now and he said he would swing by and see what was up.

The hunters up there are not happy about any of this. So please keep this in mind when you are traveling up there.

As far as it possibly being closed we have only ourselves to blame. The hunters are not the reason they are closing the trails down we are. I don't think I have ever heard of any of the 4x4 clubs actually doing any maint on the trails in the past 4 years I have been going there. I'm also part of the problem not the solution too. In the past we have been hesitant about working with the FS on helping maintain these trails for fear they would rather just close them than have to mess with us. Maybe it's time we all work together and try to work with the FS on getting the trails fixed. If they don't want us well then maybe we should look somewhere else to go.

Have got to say when I saw this picture it made me a little mad. While I love Unimoggs. Something of this size has no place at the Holy Land. We all have the right to travel the FS roads but we also have to keep the "Leave no trace" rule in our mind at all times.

Good to get some more eyes up there, thanks and we all look forward to the report. I'd love to join in and have not completely ruled it out but it's along shot.

Let's not start throwing rocks at anyone. From what I have gathered the closure of Tellico plays into this as much as anything. It's certainly not the only cause but a contributing factor. With those trails no longer available to us it's only natural that wheelers search out newer areas and this place might be the best unkept secret on the web. It's a shame of course.

Is it our fault? Yes, it's all of our faults on numerous levels. I'd heard the rumor of a taco winching over a tank trap up there recently, got busted by the FS wheeling behind it and had his truck taken. This is only a rumor and unsubstantiated but good for the jerk if true.

I'm fully in favor of a coordinated effort to assist in keeping things open, if I remember correctly SS had been trying his best to work with the FS but with little results. He must be applauded for the efforts. Obviously, I will do whatever I can to assist.

In short, this community should be pulling together and fighting as a single group not grinding itself up from the inside out. Any ideas???

I would actually argue that the mog has every right to be there (other closures forcing it) and the fact that it has a camper on the back screams expo vehicle and the holy land is as close as one can get to an expedition in these parts.
Other than that I think even with up keep it would still be a target and still get his like this. It seems in the last two years eco groups all over the U.S. have been uping the pressure all over and they have a good game plan and have hit us all by suprise. The sad part of it is that Cali and Oregon have about 15 eco nuts for every 1 we have here and those states don't bend to the pressure but for some reason our southern states do.
Soon Uwharrie is going to be the only none private land left for us available within a 7-8 hour driving distance for me and then i'm sure that will start to get attacked.

Y'all have nailed it on the head so well, it does me proud. Tellico is a MAJOR contributing factor. Isn't this in the Nantahala too? Not the same District, but the same forest...hmmmm.

The good news is that it may not be too late. The folks out west have had very good luck forming user groups and working with the FS and BLM to maintain and self police the areas.

We do need someone local that can interface with the FS on a regular basis (golf, church, etc.). And we need clubs to sponsor.

What would folks thing about a UC/GC joint venture to save the Holy Land? Would give a nice pool of people and could work.

Makes for good conversation tonight.

There's always the adopt a trail way. ONSC has already adopted trails at Uwharrie for this purpose.

I didn't go by the fs today but maybe Thursday I will go. There is man(retired from the fs) that his grandson plays football with my boy That I will talk to Monday night.. I will keep everyone posted.

Wow, what a shame. I just bought another wheeling vehicle to build just for this type of wheeling so that my wife and 3 year old could enjoy wheeling a little more than just standing around obstacles all day. To say that I'm pissed off would be a huge understatement. This country is going to s#*t.

To be honest Steve wanted to do a lot more. I and a few other fought him to not make the FS aware of the place. Have to give him a lot of credit for putting up with us. In the end it doesn't look like any of that mattered as the Holy Land has a big bullseye on it.

As far as needing to a build a wheeling vehicle for that area. It just isn't needed. Plenty of stock 40's, 60's, 80's and 100's have been up there and had a blast. You just don't need a big vehicle. It's not hard, it's a cakewalk with anything over 31 inch tires.

The holy land has never been about wheeling. If you think it is then

It's all about the experience.

What Marshall said, it's not the wheeling!

FWIW--as of this evening I have a second confirmation on trap locations.

Ted - I sent you a PM - call and we can discuss.

back at ya! We're kicking around ideas as to where to start. this will have to be a group effort as I already have a lot on my plate. I know some of the TTORA guys up there so maybe we can enlist some assistance.

Maybe by "building", that person meant adding an RTT and some lights. Not rockwells and 47's.

You really have a "holier than thou" e-attitude that is a complete turn off. Mind you that statement is based off very few posts Ive seen you make on here and GATTORA. I dont hang out here much, but it's all I've seen out of you.
