I am looking at the 45 long Colt because I am alos looking toward the single action Pistols in the same caliber. Heather and I plan to get into Cowboy Action Shooting in the coming year (if funds allow).

The Marlin Model 1894 is available in .45 .357/38 and also .44 mag/ 44 spl all to match the pistols used. All with tapered octagon barrel. I will be looking for one made prior to Marlin going over to Remmington as from everything I have read the quality has gone down since moving over to Rem.

Marlins made right after the acquisition by Freedom Group (Remington) were not the best. Recent ones are pretty good ... just got an 1895 Guide Gun that is as nicely finished as some of the older ones with reasonably good fit ... but I am going to beat on it, so I really do not care.

Recently picked up a 1894 from 1976 that is really a dandy though ....

Cabelas has some of best deals on ammo around right now. If you want bulk.

You're kidding, right? For a very few things, they have great prices, but for most others, not so much ....

Last seen at the gun show 1000 rounds of 223 were selling for 989$!!!! Thank goodness I stocked up last year.

Holy cow .... my primary source has some LC 5.56mm tracer for $0.51 per round if you buy two cans of 820 rounds each ...

It's not the government that is driving up prices, it is the consumer. Capitalism at it's finest. The law of supply and demand also applies to guns and ammo. Bottom line on all of this is that people may bitch about the high prices, but they are still buying up every AR style rifle and box of ammo that hits the shelves. Stop buying and watch how fast the prices come back down.

X2^^^

I believe I got a reasonable price from a reputable seller.

$.40 per round. 400 rounds at $159.99 plus a $20 instate rebate covers the shipping.

I'm sure that you can find cheaper ammo by a few cents somewhere else but I don't care. It's not worth the time and effort of having to deal with it for a few cents. That is my opinion.

Not knocking you or Cabelas ... just pointing out that there are other options for bulk ammo (at least there used to be ... not much ammo of any type available now - the tracer I mentioned earlier today is gone). I find that if you can catch the ammo you want on sale at Cabelas, it is competitively priced.

I have some bulk ammo on order from them utilizing a free shipping promo. The price was right and I get a few percent back for using their branded card.

Just my opinion ...

Blind Side

Has anyone here shot Winchester Blind Side in any volume. I have searched extensively on the interweb, but am curious about people who aren't the ghost masses.

I have shot a lot of heavy shot, kent fasteel and some black cloud. Tell me what you think. Is it a pure gimmick, or a good load.

at $28 a box, you will have to test on your own. why dont u go shoot a duck or too. I know you are well supplied!

local guy has 556 tracer round $600 for 1000 rounds

if Id known this 4 months ago I woulda save the ones I sold.

Just got back from a four day hunt in Hatteras and bought a box of Blind Side @ FR&G because I had already gone through everything I took. I don't have any complaints really, it doesn't have the range or knock down power of HEVI-Shot or even HEVI-Metal, at least to me during our hunt, but it did the trick and beggars can't be choosers when the birds are flying and you're out of shells. It doesn't seem to be as dirty as Black Cloud FWIW.

The gun store in Statesville (USA Tactical/Awesome guys) wouldn't sell me ANYTHING yesterday. Everything they have is going into their full builds. "Can I get an Upper?" No. "Can I get a lower parts kits?" No. "Can I buy that magpul grip?" Nope. They literally laughed at the guy who came in asking about 5.56 ammo...I did determine the direction of the 5.56 build if I can ever find parts.

In other news while I was working on Herman last night the UPS truck showed up...EOTech arrived!! :bounce:Talk about excited, I cleared every room in the house practicing muzzle control around the dogs, cat, hermit crab, and wife...Awesome. Let the zombies come.

I need to keep up my practice on that too, Chris.

We used to have a retired police German Shepherd. She loved to greet me at the door just waiting for the command to search and clear all the rooms in the house. Didn't take long to start wearing the carpets out. It was so cool to see her work, but I guess that is a post for a different thread.
