I am looking at the 45 long Colt because I am alos looking toward the single action Pistols in the same caliber. Heather and I plan to get into Cowboy Action Shooting in the coming year (if funds allow).
The Marlin Model 1894 is available in .45 .357/38 and also .44 mag/ 44 spl all to match the pistols used. All with tapered octagon barrel. I will be looking for one made prior to Marlin going over to Remmington as from everything I have read the quality has gone down since moving over to Rem.

Marlins made right after the acquisition by Freedom Group (Remington) were not the best. Recent ones are pretty good ... just got an 1895 Guide Gun that is as nicely finished as some of the older ones with reasonably good fit ... but I am going to beat on it, so I really do not care.
Recently picked up a 1894 from 1976 that is really a dandy though ....

Talk about excited, I cleared every room in the house practicing muzzle control around the dogs, cat, hermit crab, and wife...Awesome.
Let the zombies come.
