I don't really have the desire to own one, but I have the right and that's enough. I had posted a while back for people's thoughts on an AR and when I finally had the time to go shopping, the CT thing had already happened. Now I'm definitely not in a rush - no sense paying inflated prices for whatever is left in the store just because it's there.

I like the pistol caliber lever gun idea, though...

Exactly where I am. From what I can tell the pieces have not seen the same increase in pricing other than the mags. Those are pretty insane.

I am looking at the 45 long Colt because I am alos looking toward the single action Pistols in the same caliber. Heather and I plan to get into Cowboy Action Shooting in the coming year (if funds allow).

The Marlin Model 1894 is available in .45 .357/38 and also .44 mag/ 44 spl all to match the pistols used. All with tapered octagon barrel. I will be looking for one made prior to Marlin going over to Remmington as from everything I have read the quality has gone down since moving over to Rem.

Ahhhh, E.NC ranges. You gotta choose well the time and the range.
B&R is the best for pistols with plenty of stations, OK for rifles. Enough stations, great place to shoot daytime during the week.
Flatwoods is ok for rifles, sucks for pistol. Not enough pistol stations, and you have to move around the rifle range if you want to shoot different distances.
Roll up north to Buntner for long range shooting.

ARs in a pistol caliber are nice, I had an AR chambered in 9mm that was a blast to shoot. Once I get my trust set up, I'll probably get a SBR UMP or a Kriss Vector. .45ACP is the only way to go in a pistol caliper carbine;)

Can somebody explain the trust that Alex mentioned?

Well, all it does is allow you to bypass the CLEO sign off on suppressors and SBRs in NC along with the print, pic and background check by the ATF. Same for transferrable machine gubs, but in NC you still have to get the CLEO for MGs. Basically it is a trust that "owns" the firearms and anybody named in the trust can use/possess them.

They ain't cheap getting them done by a lawyer who is saavy in Class III trusts, but when it comes to possible federal jail time, I'll pay the piper to ensure I have a proper document. Mine ran about $600.

Still have to pay the appropriate tax stamp and wait for the ATF to process the paperwork, just makes it a little easier:meh:

Last seen at the gun show 1000 rounds of 223 were selling for 989$!!!! Thank goodness I stocked up last year.
I got some range time yesterday and finished up the barrel break in process for the M1A finally. So happy that is over. I was shooting off of a concrete bench and that was causing the rifle to jump and the new stock smacked my cheek several times. Hopefully when standing, kneeling, prone this won't be an issue. Further reports to follow. Cause it started to really hurt. I dialed in the iron sights on the last couple of shots too so now I am super happy with it. When the EOTech shows up (552XR with mil-dot drop compensated for .308) it should be amazing.
I also shot the new bow for the first time. Archery is a lot harder then it looks. :-)

Archery is like anything else in the shooting world, it is a learned skill. When I moved to NC from the Keys I missed diving and spear fishing and found myself looking for something to do. I worked at home and needed something I could do around the house to break up the day etc.

So I bought a compound bow and started to practice, shot maybe 100-200 arrows a day. It was not long before I could put 4/6 arrows in a 4" circle from 40 yards. THe other two inside a 6" ring :)

Got a S&W M&P-22 pistol over the holidays. Need to give it a good cleaning but having the darndest time finding 22LR ammo. Palmetto State Armory had some CCI stuff that was less than MSRP that I pulled the trigger on, but I went to like 3 Walmarts, 1 Basspro, 2 local gun shops back home and no one had any in stock or had really crappy ammo.

In the Chapel Hill / Durham area where is the closest range? Any recommendations? I heard of the Durham Pistol Club and the Durham County Wildlife Club but doesnt seem like either are taking new members.

Damn just checked 44mag.com were I had bought extra magazines for the new pistol just before Christmas and now the price is almost 15 dollars higher. 40 bucks for rimfire pistol magazine is pretty crazy!

It's not the government that is driving up prices, it is the consumer. Capitalism at it's finest. The law of supply and demand also applies to guns and ammo. Bottom line on all of this is that people may bitch about the high prices, but they are still buying up every AR style rifle and box of ammo that hits the shelves. Stop buying and watch how fast the prices come back down.

Rifle exchange

If anyone has a yen for some serious fire-power:
I have a Browning A-bolt composite stalker in 300 WinMag with a good scope which I acquired thinking I would get a chance at some North Woods elk or moose and/or some hill country Texas sheep, goat or deer. Those opportunities have not developed (and if they do I have an old 7400 in 30-06 that would serve) and I would be willing to sell or preferably trade for what NCFJ was talking about in 44 or 357 or any good carolina deer rifle or cowboy rifle, also interested in cowboy pistols w/rig.
Or possibly some exchange including a Ruger mini-30 to go with my mini-14.
