I must admit that even though it's not period-correct it looks really good on there.

Gonna be a shame to leave her in that box for six years. Probably better to leave it here in New Mexico where it's nice and dry.

It actually is since it was a December 72 truck split hood truck . But it is one of the CNC Ebay spears.

71 was last year of split hood but I still love it.
9/71 I guess. I actually thought it was the end of 72. That was the month/year of my other 40. The next mod was in 74 for the 2F air filter. :meh:

Well, I guess it won't win any restoration awards then

So. I discovered I have a leak in my transfer case. Apparently it is missing a freeze plug of sorts near the top. I posted about it in the split case rebuild thread. I guess I will be calling Beno on Monday.

I drove the truck around the hood and it ran well. Once it was heated up I went ahead and gave it a Seafoam treatment and it did not smoke nearly as much as I have seen with my other 40. that was weird since I know it has a bad valve.

I had a small fuel leak and think I conquered that.

I got another seat belt delivered and am going to figure that out if the :princess: and I do not head to ATL for a run tomorrow.

We had a conversation about storage v. selling due o the move to the Philippines and we are both leaning toward selling so keep your eyes pealed. The Gazoo may end up in the FS threads. :crybaby:

I got insurance on it and am going to get a tag next week so I can get it to the custom exhaust place
a few miles away. That will be another great step toward completion.

don't sell it dude!!! why??? You worked too hard to sell it. Plus with that garbage hood its not worth nothing!

It will live fine in the metal box you have for it!

Agreed. Just buy a bunch of silica gel bags, clean her well and drain the tank. Done. When you come home she'll be there to welcome you. Besides, after six years of rusty cars in Asia, you'll love to see a clean cruiser waiting for you.

If we keep it, the plan is to put a conex box on a friends property. He is going to allow me to run an extension cord to it and I am going to put a big ass dehumidifier in there. I will also do the Bounce and Lifesaver trick to try to combat any vermin. My big tools (blaster, parts washer, engine hoist, etc) and spare parts will go in there as well as my M416.

If I could sell it for the right price I think I would. Then use that cash to import and BJ or FJ43 or similar. I think there are a few of those floating around over there.

In other news - and I should have taken pics of this but I did not - I had purchased a heater blower from a Mud member. It was a later model plastic one. The metal one I had was really rusty on the inside (I have kept it to see if I can make it into another little project). The plastic on had one of the bottom mounting ears broken off.

I was able to use POR-15 putty to make a new one. First I disassembled and cleaned the whole mess and then drilled a couple holes in the bakelite just big enough to insert a short piece of coat hanger that I bent into a sort of rib. Then I caked the putty on. Once dry, I used a highspeed angle die grinder and a Dremel to properly shape the ear to accept the 8mm bolt and look like the other non-broken one. I then painted the area with some black plastic spray paint. Although if you examined it you could for sure tell there was a repair compared to the other side but the putty shapes well and is very strong. Plus, the repair is not really visible given the location.

This is what I used:

I have used it to repair other bakelite items in the past and it is really great for that. The shelf life is excellent. I think it have had it since I rebuilt my M416 so a few years and it is still perfectly pliable.
