I heard a rumor that you and the Mrs. are hauling your stuff to Red Wing. So get busy.:D

I ran into another issue last night. Seems that the hood is a full 5/16 longer on one side than the other. It was very rough when I got it. When I restored it, I never thought to measure it to ensure it was right since it appeared straight and the curves and angles all matched.
The front passenger corner was badly mangled and I guess it was pushed out too far.
Soooo, that means tearing up that corner of the hood. I was finally able to get the fenders and bib pretty straight. I fear trying to make up that 5/16 in the panels will make the front look really crooked.
I guess I will start work on the hard doors at the same time so I can get them colored the same time as the hood re-spray.

I am also considering dropping coin on some Procar 90 1300 seats. It will cost about $ 800 to outfit the truck but they are much lower than the Ford seats I had planned in using so that might help alleviate the steering column issue with much less work. (Plus I won't have to get them recovered.)
The struggle continues.

See all the damage I had to fix on the passenger side front corner?

Apparently I did not get it quite right. :bang:

I don't see how the hood could possibly be that far out of square with that little damage to repair.

Nor did the person making the repairs.... Yours truly :bang:

Every time I see a pic of someone sitting or standing on a hood I cringe. This one was quite mistreated. It appeared as if someone had thrown baseballs at the inside and left it outside as a dogs waterdish.

What makes you think it actually is out of square? I'm still pretty confident it is just a matter of getting the panels right. If I recall, you didn't use ccot fenders,, right?

The fact one side, the side that over hangs the bib, is 5/16 longer than the other tipped me off.

And no, all the panels are OEM.

I know someone that has a beautifully painted green hood that some nice mudder just sold him. Perhaps you parted with the wrong one?

I was wondering if anyone noticed. But you can not mix hoods. The hinges won't line up with a late model hood.

Baby steps on the truck. After being away for most weekends and working late, I was able to get downstairs and spend about seven hours with the Gazoo.

I was able to sort out the momentary hi-beam switch with Rudi's help. Seems that Toyota used a white/black striped wire (normally a ground wire color) in the switch to run to the wire in the loom that would go direct to the 20amp headlight fuse. I assumed it wa s ground and not until Rudi sent me some hints was I able to figure that one out. No idea why Toyota would have used that color wire for a hot wire.

I also fixed a heater mount, got the windshield wiper switch properly grounded so the washer works now. Also adjusted the clutch pedal height. It was way to low. Now it is even with the brake pedal and I am pretty sure it is set at stock height.

Then the wife and I spent about an hour piling wood in the car atop the seat mount to get some measurements to figure out what to do about the seats. I think I am going to run to Summit Racing and sit on some of the Procar seats and if they are comfy enough, I think they will be the ticket since they are very thin at the bolster - just 5.5 inches. They are also only 20 inches long as opposed to the 25" I tried.

Anyway, I did not have time to get to the rear bumper but plan on trying to get on that next Sunday.

I picked up a set of Procar 90 Scat 1300 seats today in lieu of the Ford seats. I set the driver's side in place. Aside from making some mounts, they are going to work great. They fit, only weigh about 25 pounds, they are comfy enough and match the newly covered jump seats. No mods to the steering will be necessary. Thank goodness. I had to drop some cash on them but to get this project done I was ready to do it.

I bought the mounts that were recommended and realized they were not needed. They will be going back to Summit.

Oh, and because they were in the same isle as the seats? I bought a new Hi-Lift jack too. :D

Hi-Lift . . . :hhmm:

So I have been on travel or doing other s*** with the wife on the weekends and now I findelf working 12 hour days. WTF right?
But the wife is out of town so when I got home tonight I spent a couple hours on the driver's seat.

I modded the original flip up mount since I am keeping the tool box (because I think it is neat).

And I mocked the seat in place about 5 times before welding the pieces in.

These are the Scat seats and the scat mounts for the driver's side of a 40. I could have probably made the mounts or something that would have worked but for $100 per mount they will take only a small amount of modification if any to work in my application which probably saved me time and money in the long run.

Yep the seats, mounts and all probably hit $1000 but when I figured in the cost of trial and error with other stuff and other fab work and then getting the seats recovered to match.... well, the recovering would have run me about $600 so I said screw it. The seats are comfy and operate nicely and for this truck, putting some other sweat stained mismatched seats in just did not seem like a good option after screwing around with those Ford seats I got from the junk yard.

I have to clean up the mount a bit, drill four holes in it for big mounting bolts and paint the mount and then get some lap belts. The passenger side mount I got from Summit will not work so I sent it back to exchange it for another driver's side. I tested the one I have and found it will work great.

I just hope the Tuff fits.

If you want them, I can clean up the lap belts I still have from my truck - Toyota emblems on the buckles :flamingo:

sounds good

I won't get to it within the next two weeks, though

I'll scRUB them extra good :hillbilly:

nice job chris. I was just going to ask what you were going to do for seat belts. I just picked up a set of seats for my truck. need to think about belts and fab the brackets. Probably will be too lazy to do for a long time :-)
