I'm 90% sure they toss the body and replace it with all aluminum.

If you look through their photos the original body is being stripped. I think you are confusing them with another well known company that only uses the title from a 40. This resto will be the real deal down to original hardware.

Love FJ Company restoration documentation. Any restoration benefits from the documentation and it's a great selling feature for your company. Looking forward to the build. Curious about the upgrades.

Do you guys media blast or chemically strip the body? Also, did the carb cooling fan kick on after you shut off the ignition? I've tried 2 different controllers unique to the Cali spec 40s and still can't get it to kick on. I swapped in a Fed spec manifold so I'm wondering if it doesn'tt get hot enough to close the thermistor. I'm guessing the headers this one had wouldn't get hot enough either. Anyway, just curious.

For the most part we are chemically stripping or manually sanding down the body parts. Sandblasting is done when necessary but not as often.

That's a good question about the fan, I don't recall but I believe it was non-functional possibly due to the headers like you mentioned. Of course this will all be put back to factory spec.

Definitely no aluminum being used in any of our builds. We use factory sheet metal at all costs and use incredibly good quality steel reproduction panels whenever rust is an issue.

Hopefully your not throwing away the conferr rear bumper. Those are nice. At least sell it to somebody. That's a clean 40.

Don't worry, that bumper won't be tossed in the scrap bin. For this build we are going with a factory spec rear bumper with original style bumperettes.

Thanks for the kind words! Yes we believe so too, the restoration means so much more when you have the entire process documented. Really shows how much work goes into these cruisers. Literally EVERY nut and bolt.

Alright guys, time for an update. This 40 is really coming along nicely. Disassembly is going smoothly and all of the mechanicals are ready for their in depth rebuilds.

The body revealed no surprises and looks to be in great shape!

Time for this old dog to learn some new tricks!

Of course a fresh wiring harness will replace this nearly 40 year old one

Possibly the first time this engine was pulled out of it's home.

Eager to see this in restored, factory spec form.

After a thorough rebuild this 4 speed transmission and transfer case will be happy turning some freshly rebuilt 3.73 differentials for a comfortable cruising speed.

I hope ya'll enjoy this build as much as we are. Comments always welcome.

By the way, we are hiring! We have two technician positions that we are looking to fill quickly. See the details for the positions here.

I wish this were six months from now and I had vintage Land Cruiser specific experience.

Would love to work for a company with your dedication to excellence when I finally escape my job here.

man i love these builds.

question, 4 spd and 3.73s, better than 5 spd and 3.73's or 4.11's?

In my opinion nothing beats the 5 Speed with 4.11s but the 4 spd with 3.73's is a great compromise. Can't say one is better than the other. 5 Speed with 3.73s makes for a highway mile eating machine....if covering lots of ground is your thing.
