Also with the wide nose on the 80 frame, there becomes some grey areas with fitting a proper 70 series wide nose bar on an 80 frame. You're either matching the body or the frame....or adapting the frame to fit the 70 bar. We're going to mod the frame/bar I think as I want the proper bar for a wide nose truck with flares. Probably will do a Dobinsons bar on this build. I believe they offer one, like ARB, that fits flared trucks.
I plan to purchase a 70 series ARB and adapt it to the 80 frame and body. Kinda want to have it in hand before I place the body on the frame so I get it perfect.

Another point of reference. ASPW's Troopy on stock steelies. The rear is VERY sunken. Specs show a 1420mm rear track (80 series being 1580mm) which is what I use calculating the above measurements:

Wonder how different that Troopy rear body is from a 79?

I bet it won't be a big deal to adapt the 70 bar to the 80 chassis. The Dobinsons setup has a really slick winch mount that is bolted on first, then the bar bolts to it. Looks easy to adapt that winch mount. But in looking at the Dobinsons stuff....I don't think they offer a wider bar for the flared trucks.....like what ARB does. ARB is flushed out to the edge of the flare. Dobinsons land somewhere in the middle of it. Probably one bar to fit the non-flare and flare trucks. Going to confirm tomorrow with Dobinsons.

This was a 4runner wheel I think....

Figured I'd document the transportation times for anyone else looking to boat in a vehicle from Latin America.

MSC updated the tracking info. The previous vessel must have been a filler name or something.
Makes more sense now. Looks like arrival in about three more weeks.
Currently on the Cap Palliser on it's way to Panama.
Looks like the container will switch vessels to the MSC Michela (which is currently in the Caribbean) and off to Seattle for arrival on the 3rd. Hopefully we'll have the vehicle in our hands before my birthday on the 22nd of April. Happy Birthday, you get a Troopy to build.

Here you go Tony for inspiration, scroll down to post 44,906.

Well it didn't sink... yet. Made it to the USA at least. Still needs to make it to Seattle though.

Also snagged this at a junk yard for dirt cheap and in VERY good condition too. No idea if the splines are the same between the 80 series and 70 series? Anyone know?
I know in some auto makers the splines are all cattywampus from different models and years. Guess we'll find out. Worst case I can sell it and make my money back and then some...

Ronny Dahl just posted a vid that he'll be at Expo West in a couple of months. Bummer the troopy can't make it, I'm a big fan and wanted to say hi. Anyone want to let me borrowing a rig? :D Maybe I'll drive the crapwagon BMW down.

A few of us have used that steering wheel in our 70-series. I used it on mine and some of pros-cons are listed here:

1985 BJ70 Story and Modifications

Splines are the same, and Brian was able to get the turn signals to cancel and the horn to work with this steering wheel.

I love that steering wheel.

Hope this helps!

Perfect! Thanks!

I’m running a wheel from a 1990 MR2, specifically the targa with leather option. Splines are correct and the horn button was a direct plug/play. It’s period correct and the wheel is a bit smaller but push toward the driver a bit (which I wanted for my preference in driving position).

I got the $125 x-ray on my BJ40. Good thing that was the only fee I got hit with through customs.

$125??

You are kidding right?

I had one in 2007 and it was $500, I thought that was cheap. Last one in 2017 was $1200.

By the way customs doesn’t charge for anything, only duty. It is the shipper charging for these things.

Cheers

Mine came in through Tampa on a Banana boat. Shipper said it was the easiest port.

Ya , haha I hear that about Florida.

I have done Long Beach, Oakland and now Seattle.

Not much to report. Still waiting on the container to get opened and cleared. The runaround from the port, as expected.

However, just like old times, Maker's Mark strikes again. No idea I ordered this until it showed up.
All new wiper linkages, hardware and wiper arms. Looks like all I need is a motor, and since UFC is on this weekend, good chance I'll get loaded and order more stuff.

Also in the box is a MC rebuild kit and a complete/new lock and key kit.
Way to go drunken TonyP. You did nicely.

Soon my man, soon and you can come put your hands all over it.

You will definitely have to take it for a drive before it gets torn down. Before and after drives to me are a must!

Cheers
