So still waiting for the block to come back to the shop. Hoping this week. Here’s a fluff picture. I took the cowl in front of the windshield off and sprayed inside that area with Black Star rust neutralizer and then spayed 2 part epoxy White # 31 (original stock color) in the hing bays, on the inside of the cowl bay and the hinges. I needed a couple of replacement screw (courtesy of JMack, thanks), and sprayed them. Put it back together and even had the original black caps for the thread covers.

Enjoy

The cam gear is measuring off center about 5k. Ordered a new one from Toyota. There are 5 available in the U.S. will see if it comes true.

Have you weighed the new pistons & rods yet? Curious if you saw as much weight reduction as estimated earlier.

Somewhere between 12 and 13 pounds difference. I picked up a 13 pound chunk of steel and was amazed to think how that much metal will not be flying around on the crank journals

Bout time that good for nothing*%#;:.&* Gordobe got off his lazy &-%#();/: but and took care of me like the lady I deserve to be. Might even go get me a tattoo to celebrate the come upins I’m gettin

The cam gear needed to be replaced anyway, since the rubber isolator is usually deteriorating at this age
That’s what I figured is probably the problem

Digging this motor build

Getting juiced up now baby.

Timing gear arrived today also. Pick it up at Toyota tomorrow am.

Gonna get some a head soon.

Man I’m just excited that there are options other than OEM for engine rebuilds. I was under the impression that once domed pistons, etc., etc. were gone these engines were going to be obsolete. I’m definitely no mechanic or engine rebuilder but look forward to taking on an engine rebuild in the future and have bookmarked this thread as a reference. Keep up the great work!

My theory for this engine was to use modern technology to allow it function with less effort, less strain, giving it more durability and smoother

I’m hoping the theory works.

Enough with the rhetoric. Let’s hear some hallelujahs and praised be’s and a few amens.

In hunting for a replacement rocker shaft I ended up with a mid 80’s assembly in great condition. Had to go to the thinner push rods which I found new. All of which is supposed to perform better.

And we all know how great it is when your mistress performs better.
