Ooh, that is very Very niiice...

Your rebuild turned out awesome. When is the next one?

The girlfrield hasn't seen me in two years! I'm gonna have to spend a little quality time with her (behind the wheel of the Cruiser, of course) before I begin the next obsession. That said, I've got this 1962 FJ40 sitting out back behind the garage that I'd like to restore to stock specs. I'll need another early 60's rig for parts to make that happen.

Back to the '81:

Just got it on the road yesterday and took it out for a couple of hours last night and then all day today. Drives straight and the engine pulls well, although it's running a bit rich. I'm going to try some smaller jets this week. I also need to shim the rear axle a couple degrees to get rid of some driveline vibes from the lift.

About the suspension: I should make an appointment with the dentist soon, because I know I'm going to lose a few fillings if these SOR springs don't soften up soon. I stopped by a friends house and with them in the jump seats for a ride, the truck felt much better. I still have a little more weight to install into this thing like door glass, regulators, tailgate, running boards, etc... That own't be enough to smooth out the ride, though. I'm thinking the hardtop may help things, but I'd like to enjoy it with the soft top on in the summer. How do the OME springs feel with a soft top? Just as stiff?

Nice work! What did you use for/where did you get your exhaust downtube? (looks like you have the stock exhaust manifold on there)

I used the stock downtube that was there when I bought it. If you don't have one, you can get the correct flanges from SOR and have the tube bent by an exhaust shop. I believe Shane (AATLASX) makes the flanges and sells them to SOR.

Looks really nice... I also put the BFG's on my 74

I've read of guys using sandbags in the back for the first few months to get the springs to "soften" faster...never tried it myself...hope this helps

Beautiful rig. Nice work.

Did you get the soft top from pakitops??
Or where??

Yes, unfortunately it is a paki top. I should have waited for an OCD top. The Paki tops quality got so bad that I don't think anybody's importing them anymore.
