The antenna is pretty cool and magnetic, so it will stick to the dash. Speedhut would like it on the roof, but second best is the dash. Good thing we have metal dashes. I still need to get the dash gauge panel cut out and powder coated. Now that it's back home, need to wrap up a lot of small stuff.

I have almost the same exact gauges Ron with just a little added bling ;). I'll have to post mine up
 
All I got are some artsy pictures of a fender. Promised my Wife, no work on the wagon, until after my buddy's Daughter's wedding. She wants to be married on the farm. So, this is it for now. I ordered some new shackles for the front. Going to be a lot of cutting and grinding to get the old hangers off.

Two more weeks and I'm moving into the shop! :)

Very nice.

Did your body man paint the fender upper separate from the lower and assemble afterward? I'm trying to figure out if they're painted separate, how to put them together for mounting without screwing up the new paint job.

I guess I'm wanting to make sure there's a good painted surface between them to help prevent future rust in this trouble spot. Did you do anything special in between?
 
Thanks Guys! Just playing around with some bling, to see what it's going to look like.

NikP, The two halves were separated and painted, then put together. We used string caulk ( dum dum? ). I'm not real happy with it, but the painter wasn't willing to use seam sealer ( he never said why? ). It turned out alright, but I believe that was part of my fitment issues. I bought the wagon with the fenders apart, so wasn't sure of any problems before hand. That was on me, for not checking before painting. I'm not a body man, so really don't know the correct way, but to do again, I would prime apart and use seam sealer between, bolt together, then paint the halves. A bigger pain, but might turn out nicer.

Some of the cadmium plating was ready, so while my Wife went shopping, I ran to the shop. :) The front turn signals ( early style ) are discontinued, but you can still get FJ40 turn signals. Problem is, the base is different. You can cut them down, but the locating pin doesn't match up. I opted to use the old bases and paint. Even though everything was new, I had the hardware plated in order to stop any rust. Over board, you say...heck yeah!

Making a change on the front shackles or just replacing old ones?

Hey Ron, I bought a pair from Ige way back when I though I might actually try to restore the old girl to semi-stock. Since I'm not going that way anymore, I'd be happy to donate them to the cause. Just say the word and they'll be in the mail. :D
 
Wow, I sure didn't expect a free ride. So many parts, from so many friends. The Slow 71 is truly a part of all of us. To me, that's the coolest part of this build!

In a way, you already have. I learn a little something, every time I check in on the Red Monster! When the time comes, would like to mimic your style bumper. So, keep it going, I've a lot to learn!
