My 79 40 is virtually rust free until i just noticed a bubble appearing and now cracking on the bottom of the rear fender just above the tire  . Is there any way i can stop this?

    thanks

    Yep....

Remove the rust, treat the metal, paint it, and wait for the rust to show up everywhere else in your 'rust free' truck.

    Good luck!

sand all the rust off and paint it, cut it out, buy a new tub, buy a new rig?

    Hey GA,

    Rust is a bugger!

Is there any filler in your quarter that the rust was hiding behind?

    Post up a pic!

This is the absolute most truthful post post I ever remember reading on this forum. If rust is popping out in one spot it is .000001" away from appearing 10,000 other places. Welcome to a 30 year old vehicle!

The only thing an FJ40 is better at than wheeling ... is Rusting! Since it's a goner anyway might as well take it out, have some fun, and get it dirty.

Took my cruiser over to a friends to have him remove the rusty quarter panels. Turns out his cat has been sleeping in the front seat while sitting in his garage. The cat's name---------Rusty! Both the rusty quarter panels and the cat have since been removed.

Don't worry about the rust until things start falling off of your truck. Then cut it out and weld in new metal and you will be good for another 50 years or so.
