That rusty area is an odd place to get started, considering the many other places it usually goes first. Not bad though.

The red/white combo is attractive to me, though the front/back split is not the way to go. I'm thinking of doing mine in a two tone bottom/top, red/white.

I'm thinking the seal failed and water was getting between the seal and the body? I should take a look at the seal to confirm. I agree though, it is strange since you wouldn't expect moister to collect there.

This might be part of the problem. Looks like I'll be doing some rear window sprayer tubing work. I found an old thread on this already.

Well it seems that I only make progress on the weekends. Oh well.

After cleaning up some stuff, and digging out some seam sealer, I was happy to see that just the flange was rusted. The base material on the inside and outside looked just fine. So I started getting ready to replace the flange that the gasket holds onto.

Just need some seam sealer now and it's all ready to go. I'll do the sealing when I get the front fender mount fixed. I'm still waiting on that part.

Sweet can you link the thread?! I have the same issue and just removed my rear squirter bag just because I didn't feel like running the line at the time.

nice work. i've been doing the same stuff on my red 60. it is coming along slowly. also really like the little e21 you got parked next to it in the first pics. i have a e28. keep at it.

Good work and it's great to have your wife helping you on your project. Looks like you have a F100 project as well as the 62.

Great work! Excited to see the new paint photos!

Thanks. Do you have a build thread for your 60? Yea, the E21 has been with me since I was 17, which means it's been with me for quite a while now. ;-)

Thanks. The F100 is my wife's project, along with this 60, jeez even the BMW Bavaria is her car... I may have to re-think things a little bit.

Great work! Excited to see the new paint photos!

Me too!

I got the first 12" of a 60 fender last week.

A little quality time with the drill press at work and a harbor freight spot weld drill.

Used the wire wheel and the belt sander to get some of the surface rust off. I'll hit it with a 60 grit pad on my angle grinder this weekend.

I set it up against the truck last night and it looks like I'll have to adjust the fender a little bit to get everything squared up to weld. Getting closer, hope to have the truck all "ready" for paint by Sunday.

So I'll put this here for anyone that is searching for some FJ60 to FJ62 fender comparison. Here is a 62 and 60 headlight bezel bracket compared to each other. The 60 bracket mounting points for the bezel are recessed probably an inch or so as seen below.

The mounting locations are the same. The 62 bracket (red) is fairly beat up from being pop riveted to the fender and bent over time but you can see that they basically locate the same way and line up with the bezel, it's simply a depth issue.

So, I got the bracket on this weekend. This represents the final piece of sheet metal work before it goes off to paint.

I've never been amazing at putting seam sealer on, but it'll get the job done. The painter is going to paint the fenders off the truck so I'm confident we'll get good coverage on all the work I did.

Swapped out the new wheels and tires for the stockers, then jumped in the truck, twisted the key and she fired right up. Pull her out into the driveway to clean out the garage a bit and took some photos. This is the state the truck will be in when I deliver it to the painter. Bring in the other parts (tailgate, liftback, etc) as needed. Pretty exciting.

Nice work so far... What shop are you using? Ive been thinking of getting a respray as well on mine.
I'm using a privateer that works at an ABRA Auto Body. He's taking it on as a personal project. Once mine is done, hit me up and I can get you in contact with him.

i have had my e28 for about 14 years now. i cant bring myself to sell it, even though i have had stupid offers on it.:)no i don't have a build thread for the 60. i started on it 5 years ago and well found a girl, got married had a kid.... and my truck has been put on the back burner till i can get some time to strip the two paint jobs off of it and fix some of the rust issues. i am going to pull the body off and clean and coat the frame. it has been a CA truck most of its life so it isn't too bad. treat it now so that when i move, i don't have to worry about the frame rusting out.

NICE!!! so now the question is... what color!!
Also, the stupid little yellow inserts that are the nylon nuts for the headlight doors, you found those anywhere?

They got the glass out on Friday. Found a few spots of that-which-will-not be-mentioned under one of rear storage windows and the lift back gasket.

The spot under the side window is the worse (photo above). They pressed on through the weekend and got some more done. The painter is sending me photos as he goes along.
