i just hit my rear window washer for the first time since winter and water started pooring through my headliner just abover the rear hatch, im guessing a hose running from the resevior to the sprayer is busted

if i peel back just the last few inches of my headliner do you think it will screw it up, it's in great shape and i really dont want to mess with it

any suggestions

Before you pull off the headliner or give up on a rear washer, take all the panels off the liftgate first.

Look at the plastic tubing and see if you can find kinks or holes in it. Especially check out where the tubing goes into the rubber grommet and back into the truck. Mine was broken right there, and only took cutting a small piece off to fix it.

Now, if it's broken too far inside the truck, it will be really hard to get to. You might be able to wiggle it out far enough to fix it, though.

That rear washer really is useful on these trucks, like when you drive wet dirt roads or through coal mine dust a lot, like I do.

Yep, my washer hose dried out, got hard and broke at the upper tailgate hinge area.

Same problem, fixed with vaccum hose or fuel hose

Had same problem, and the break was at the hinge area. Ran rubber (not plastic) hose from spray nozzle to break, and bridged the break with a connector (little hard plastic piece) that acts as a splice. X2 on not taking the headliner off, just remove all the metal panels in lift gate. Replaced with rubber under a theory it is better product than the clear plastic (and easier to find).

my hose was hung up on something along the roof line. I could not get the hose to pull out or push in. There was about 2 inches of hose sticking out before it hit the accordion rubber piece connecting the headliner area to the lift gate.

This is a common problem. Mine broke at the rubber connection between the lift gate and rear cargo area. I was able to add an extension with some fittings and hose to fix the problem. If you are not able to get to the broken area just re-route new hose through the existing location.

mine blew out just after ski season. i kept pressing it and nothing happened, cept that water puddle kept getting bigger. derrr...

the one on my truck had a crease/hole at the top of the window on the passenger side where it enters and routes to the actual sprayer.

i ended up routing all new house from the sprayer itself, up around the window frame [by undoing all the access panels] the pushing it through the same hole it originally used.

then up into the headliner [just barely] and down through the side venting access... took a little wiggling on that part, but it came through ok.

from there i just routed it out the side panel and under the carpet to the other side. i've already got some wires running for speakers, so i just bundled them up together.

i would've just left it alone and not used it, but i find it invaluable in the winter to help de-ice and help visibility when it gets dirty.

all told, took about 1.5 hours and $5 worth of 3/8 clear hose.

How about dripper line? I just had the headliner rainstorm yesterday - was stoked on getting the pump running, and then the puddle formed, and the heavens broke loose... s***. Inspected, found out that it was indeed broken at the grommet, and I'm thinking of using irrigation dripper line. All sorts of connectors, and I think it'd be pretty durable... Also thinking of replacing the vulnerable grommet connection with some silicone vacuum line... seems like it would be more durable. Any comments?

thanks for the input, ill check it out this weekend, but i dont think it's in the tail gate, the water poors through the headliner about 5 inches back from the gate, but ill open everything up and find out for sure

The clear tubing used for fish tank air line is the exact same OD and ID.

Had same problem:
Remove lift gate panels, remove vent on outside of LC (the plastic louvered thingy). The tubing has a small anti drainback valve in it, want to d/c and save it. With the tubing disconnected, start slowly pulling back and forth, the plastic tubing sticks to the metal, mine did. When it's freed up, get new tubing, duct tape the ends together really well and pull the old tubing with the attached new tubing all the way out. Re install through the accordian rubber tubing that attaches at the upper hinge area. No need to fool with the headliner. I used aquarium tubing and it worked well.

mine was leaking at the back also, plastic connector under headliner was buggered, makes you think about how alot of the rusty roofs start?

new hose experience

This is an old thread but wanted to add my experience.

I was also able to replace the washer hose without taking the headliner down. The old hose was broken at the joint where it exits the frame and goes into the hatch. The old hose was also really "baked" onto the frame from years of summer heat. By removing the exterior vent on the washer side you can give the old hose several good yanks and it will come out eventually.

I used some wire to fish through the frame and then taped the new hose to it and pulled it through. I had to remove the rear hatch light as this gets in the way when trying to fish the wire or new hose through. Everything turned out great.

same thing with mine, I pulled out the light and helped it to the opening to the tailgate.
I do have one question where did everyone put the check valve at? I pulled mine out before i realized where it went.
