2FE Wiring Pt. 1
2FE Wiring Pt. 2

Thanks Curtis. and thanks everyone for the good advice and encouragement, its good to have when i don't feel like working in 2 degree weather.
thats great to know with the air pump, and i figure that if the 2f's pumps at a 6-cyl. air rail and at the cat, then it can easily handle just the 4-cyl air rail from the 3fe.
HG comes in tomorrow, then you'll be seeing a lot more progress from me. i'll throw up some pics tonight though of the harness all taped up, it's looking good imo:cool:

Subscribed. About to go through this with a FJ80 harness.

Just got my complete 62 harness that I'm going to hack up and pull all this out too! If you hear a really loud "Noooo", you know I messed something up.....

So, I have a question. In fitting the , I believe it's called the plenum, the big metal horn that bolts to the intake manifold, and the air sensor leads into, it seems my hood hits. Anyone else have this problem, and how did you resolve it?
Are the o2 sensors required? My rig is emissions free here, because of age, but I don't have the o2 sensors part of the pipes, so need to know if I will have to get those mounted to the pipes, or if the engine/computer will work without them?

Regardless of emissions requirements, O2 sensors are needed. The ECU is going to run in open loop without them. I have a 3FE in my 40 and have the O2 sensors hooked up the way they should be even though I don't have to pass emissions. If you don't have the stock 3FE downpipe, try Cruiser Yard, classified section or some other used parts outlet.

Good info. Never owned anything with any o2 sensors before, so wasn't sure. Thanks for the heads up!

Now, about that hood fitting issue, any one have a suggestion to resolve that?

The Ox sensors are not an emissions device. They are required for the proper function of the EFI, just like the other sensors (speed, temp, air flow, throttle position, etc).

I have a 1" body lift to clear the H55F. Not sure if it was needed for the 2FE or not.

bump- anyone else have hood clearance issues?

Mine rubs the hoodliner. After pooching an engine mount in Moab, it rubs a little more vigorously.

perfect- I can live with that. Thanks, Doc. And thanks for all your posts on the 2/3fe work you've done.

And yáll thought this was a dead thread....

After long last we get to see the unwinding of all of this. Here's a low down of the last 2+ years since I've updated. Like I said earlier, I left for 2 years to serve as a volunteer missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS, or Mormon) in Alabama. Bike, white shirt and tie, backpack and all. Awesome time, loved it, wouldn't trade it for anything. Got to meet up with Godwin and see is sweet collection (including a well done 3fe'd 60) and a lot of other awesome stuff. If anybody has questions about what I did or why I did it feel free to PM me.

As a missionary I was literally away from home the whole time and pretty much put a pause on everything in life (except for keeping in contact with the family of course). The cruiser was one of the many things that got put on hold. Before I left I got as far as putting the head on the block and installing the harness. During my time away my dad was gracious enough to slowly piece the rest of the rig back together with my little brother during spare minutes in his weekends. I came home to a complete cruiser that had one unsuccessful starting attempt due to a fuel leak at the injection rail and possibly other problems. Got that sorted out (https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/2fe-wont-start.841284/) and the thing RAN!:bounce:

Pictures, videos, details and such to follow.

Couple bits of advice for those wanting to do this:
-The CEL grounds at the ECU, I can't imagine I was/would be the first to assume that the ECU powers it and it grounds on the other side. I decided to be consistent with the FSM and tap one lead of the light to the back of the gauge fuse, and run the other lead to the ECU
-if you don't have a EFI main relay I wouldn't bother sinking 100 bucks on one from toyota, or even a used one. All it is is a SPST, which you can get new from Checker for 10 bucks as long as you're willing to change the connection.
-Head Bolts. Earlier I said that I was using the 3fe head bolts. My dad tried to use them and said that they bottomed out, I guess the 2f head is a lot taller. He went ahead and used the 2f bolts and said it went ok. No compression test has been done but it seems to have a good seal.
-Distributor. I was told this would be a plug and play, but for some reason when I put it in the curved slot that the bolt goes through was significantly offset (to the inside) from the bolt hole in the block. After widening the slot with a grinder tool I was able to thread in the bolt and it's been fine.

I ended up using an external pump from Summit Racing. Other than it randomly not pumping even though it had power (maybe pulled in some rust from the tank after the initial startup) and then all of a sudden working again, it seems to be a quality buy. EDIT: I shouldn't be so quick to put a bad name on summitt, my wiring job was a little hit and miss. I even left the rig in the on position and cold start injector loose by accident for a few hours, came back to the garage with gas spewing everywhere, the pump running for who knows how long and it's still doing fine nearly a year later. But again, it's driven all of 7 miles to the exhaust shop so time will tell. The one thing I don't like is that the terminals are completely exposed. I'll have to put some paint-on insulation on it.

I'm sure there's a lot of other hiccups that come with putting the engine together, but since I was gone for most of the assembly I don't have much wisdom to offer.
