Great It looks like you've got it whipped.
For testing purposes you can tape the safety switch button down and fiddle with the internal wires of the tailgate. This is best done with no glass.
Where the wires pass into the tailgate I glued in the grommets and ran the wires through a plastic tube. I was concerned about the wires being cut with the tailgate going up and down.

I think that I am finished. Here's some pics

I love seeing your pics. I am simple like that. So on that note some more pics.

So the tailgate torsion bar. Put everything together, painted and all. Then took the tailgate without the upper supports on, you know those things that support and then fold up when the tailgate is close, and lowered it until the hole for the connection hinge side was able to be accesed with the attach bolt from the side. Then levered the torsion bar out about an inch, so that I could put a block in to hold it out. Then tack welded a big as bar to the torsion bar onto which I slide a 6foot long lever. Levered the torsion bar the rest of the way so that it lined up with the hole of the hinge. Screw in the attach bolt. Final -cut off the welded attachment. Wala! Another example how a welding machine has changed my life. Tried a number of other ways first, 2.5hours worth of other ways only to get to the welding technique. Went easy then!

new game for me

The bar hinge weld works like a charm. The reflectors fit without any chananagins. Right into the old clips without any play. I don't have a pn, but I am sure that I will be going back in there and I'll try to remember to get it.

Just scored some front seats from SOR and I am stoked. I'll put those in tomorow, and then begin on the next project.

I just bought a front and rear 62 axles from LandCruisnman! What am I into;p? Is this where I start a new post or am I just continue on this one. There's gonna be photos.

Please inform

seat

Out with the old seats and in with some new. The brown ones were really nice, but I think these new ones are so sexy! They are a bit low so I think I am going to raise 'em a bit. The brown ones have this great fold down cup holder that makes me think I should just stay with them. You know those tough decisions

62 axles

So let's talk axles. I just got a pair of axles off a 62- no calipers. The back plates are a bit bent, however, I imagine that they can be strightened. The discs are a bit dodggy. I will have to find out if they are usable.

What is my strategy. :hhmm:

I put the fronts on with outriggers. I understand that the front axle is supper beefy compared to the 55, but then I will have to adjust the steering linkage. There is a stablilizer bar set up on the front as well. Maybe I can get that to work for me as well. The outriggers will create a wider stance but there is a bit of fabing to get done as well. Won't that flex the frame wierd?

Or.. I switch out from the knuckles out from the 62 and assemble them onto the 55 axle, adding spacers to match the back. Won't have to do any steering modification.

The back I want to use because I heard that they are self adjusting and as well have an emergency brake ablitlity. That'll be good for the brodies that I'll be pulling. I shine the outriggers and "just" move the perches in 1.5 on each side, and re-work the stablilzing bar.

I don't really like the Hillbilly style with the wheel out beyond my fenders. I think eventually I'll buy wheels that can center the wheels back to underneath the body. That can be done right?

What is the beta on this guys? What do think is the best way to go? I am trying to go on a little Death Valley Wheeling trip at the end of October. I am shooting to have this done before then:lol:

the wheels really don't stick out that far. i have 12.5s on 62 rear axle and they stick out as far as the farthest edge of the flare lip. you do have to outboard the front springs a bit for the front to fit. to use the rear ebrake/adjuster, you'll have to have a custom cable made, or adapt the 62 floor lever to the 55

help

Does that mean that one doesn't have to use outboards on the rear springs. The perches just fit. or did you move the perches on the axle. Is perch the right term for that platform onto which the axle and leafs are connected?

Do you think it's it better for the front to swap onto the 55 axles or use the 62 axle?

You can move perches only on the rear axle...on front, diff is in the way. What you plan on doing dictates whether 62 axles are better. I'm spring over and building a rock rig, so the extra width and strength will help me. If you're staying stock or only a little over that, then probably more hassle than it's worth

Thanks Nuclearlemon. I don't really want a rock crawler, but I do want to get it done. So far I have gotten in some pretty good stuff and the front end has worked out fine.

The door panels aren't too bad. I used the old as a template and used mdf. First jigsaw the shape and all the wanted holes. Don't forget to drill the holes for the press in tabs as well. The inside needs to be waterproofed. I sprayed it down with 3m adhesive and then layed some rugged plastic down. On the outside I didn't want it puffy so I used this thin white stuff to do some noise prevention. You can buy it at an automotive upholsery shop, or they can steer you to where you can get it. That will be where you get the outside sheet- the grey stuff I used. I wanted to get those cool patterns pressed in, but way too expensive. I went and got some glue that I was able to apply with a brush (the kind that has the brush atached to the inside of the top, and some shallower staples. Cut the white stuff to shape. The outside needs to be a little larger so when stretched it will overlap deep enough, but not so that the press clipps won't work. I managed to get the even the ash trays in, at least up front. When cutting the window crank, door latch and ashtray holes slice in an X, don't cut to close to the edges otherwise when stretched they will show. Then glue and staple.

Either my doors are hanging too low, good chance, or I cut the mdf to long, becuase one of them is hitting on door sill.:frown:

Hope that helps
