Adapter threads to -6an line
Thanks - I can't get that threaded union apart - it turns a few threads and then freezes so hard the nut is starting to round off.

Could I cut the banjo fitting off the end and do hose barb to -6an adapter, or is the pressure to high?

Are you using a tubing wrench to try and take it off? I wouldn't use a hose barb but that's just me. You can remove the entire fuel line off it and clamp it into a vice to help hold everything. Or maybe try a pair of good use grips to turn it. I know what your talking about I've had them be a pain to remove

Do you mind if I ask how you connected the fuel line to the fuel regulator?

Did you disconnect the Threaded fitting at the end of the hardline, or cut off the banjo fitting and repurpose?

Thanks

This is mine..no cutting involved. It is an adapter to AN fittings.

Don't use barb on the high pressure side, unless you like engine fires.

Heat, and penetrant, and a brake line wrench = success. You can get vise-grips like these.

Thanks everyone - it breaks loose, turns a few rotations and then locks up SOLID on the way out - to the point my Harbor Freight flare wrench is starting to bend. Just one of those seized-thread adventures that adds spice to the project I guess - I'll try that vice grip wrench next...

By way of introduction, I've been stalking this thread for a bit - got sidetracked earlier this year by thinking turbo 1FZ would be an easier route to power, but after the extra ponies blew up my transmission I decided to cut straight to the chase with a complete modern L87/10L80 drive train.

Sold off my 1FZ/turbo setup. Have the Torfab kit in hand and waiting on Swaptime to send over my harness goodies. Can't wait to get started on install!

Awesome when you do start your swap start your own thread and ask questions so your not piggy backing on someone else's. Not trying to be a dick or anything oh and make sure you post pictures we all love pictures.

Well Its been a few months since I've been on or given any updates and here is why:

I sold the truck in September (a guy made me a crazy offer). After going 6 months without it, I text the buyer last Friday asking him to let me know if he ever decided to sell it, thinking it would be a few years. He said "funny enough its for sale now." CRAP. I wasn't expecting that! I pulled my wife aside and asked her that she thought about buying back Sparkles. To my surprise she couldn't have been more happy or supportive. She was upset I sold it to begin with and told me to go to the bank and get our 80 back. So I did. The buyer hadn't even swapped over the title yet so she even still had her "SPRKLS" Classic LP.

The buyer had made some huge improvements including Corbeau seat, Icon/Delta suspension, SCS wheels, ceramic tent and a completely new sound system. He was happy to report that the LT swap had been rock solid and towed his racecar trailer all over Texas.

So shes back home!

Ill post some driving updates and a new video soon.

Our kit actually includes shifter linkage to use your factory Toyota shifter
First, I loved your kit its made the process very easy. But, The "Shifter Linkage" I was supplied is laughable at best. It was just a straight pieced of flat 1/8" bar with a hole cut in the end. No hardware to attach to anything. Hoping that was improved on future kits.

I am always surprised when people sell just after completing major projects...

I don't know, but I think the offer would have to be approaching six figures before I even consider selling my ls swapped and mechanically restored LX450. Way too much of my money and time involved...

I am not sure about the 8 or 10 speeds, but to have a toyota transmission shifter control a 6l80/90 requires geometry and throw distance changes. Not possible with a single straight bar. I use a cable, and modified toyota gear shifter arm, and it is perfect as can be.

About to revisit the shifter linkage and move to a cable. Any tips?

The easiest is to buy the linkage from Zared Automotive out of Australia. See this Post He can be hard to get a hold of.

I do have 3 posts in my build thread, linked in the first post.

The original, and perhaps easiest, way to wire the cable is having the cable going forward, and then back around, in a figure S. I send the cable towards the back.

Thanks - these are helpful posts. Mitch @ swaptime has made cable linkages & mounting brackets for the 10L80 (one of which hit my porch this morning), but to link to a C10 column shifter.

This kit - i hope - squares things away with respect to geometry down at the transmission, but I will now have to experiment with mounting and linking it to the Toyota shift lever above. I feel like that's where it might be hard to get it perfect, but suspect almost anything will be better than just the bent aluminum arm that is presently serving as the linkage.

@mattnandie - did you end up going this route too?

Awesome and congratulations! Looking forward to updates as I'm going to be doing a swap on mine soon. Something similar just happened to me. I sold my Golf R back in 2017 because I no longer had a commute. That guy (who I knew), sold it to another guy (who I knew well) and a few weeks ago that guy approached me and said he was going to "fire sale" the golf because of an intermittent electrical problem that the dealer couldn't find and did I want it. I hemmed and hawed but then he called up and made an offer I couldn't refuse. It was sitting at the local mechanic shop and I just had to tow it to my driveway. Went out, sure enough didn't start. Spent five minutes looking around and employing Occam's razor.... Found an electrical wire to the starter that had been chewed by something. Put the two ends of the wire together and voila, it started. Called the owner and asked multiple times over multiple days...are you sure. He had had enough. Bought it for a little more than 1/3 market value. It was exactly the same car in the same condition, with all the spendy maintenance done that I had sold 7 years and 50k miles ago. I can't believe a mechanic didn't catch something so simple. Or that my friend/seller wouldn't want to keep it or sell for a higher price given the findings. But karma, I guess.

Pablo at Tandem told me that you had sold it. You gave me a ride in it one day at the shop. I'm still planning on this swap.

We charged about $40 for two pieces of stainless that attach to the trans pivot and then connects it to the shifter pivot, I removed it from the kit because we didn't really explain how to modify the shifter to make it work. For the moment we basically reduced the price to reflect those and other changes. I'm sorry our shifter linkage didn't work out for you, we will continue to use them in house because those pieces are really useful but they require some key mods to work correctly with the stock shifter. The benefit is that there's no cable, because the exhaust has to run really close to the trans at that spot.

We are actually going to re-design the kit to incorporate the a343 adapter housing for the people with earlier cruisers, hopefully we will have those available in the coming year.

I found - and think Matt would agree (he's said as much elsewhere in thread) - that the linkage you all included definitely functions, but I'm also betting you all probably have the bends to the linkage arm and connections to the trans & shifter pivots perfect down to a tee in your shop (i.e., way way better than my assembly). I'm going to give a cable set up a try with Mitch's C10 / 10L80 cable and see where I end up, but @torfab the kit was a breeze. My only real problems are restoring / putting back together a 300k mile truck in my driveway.

My driveway is where I started working on cruisers ;) I built many there rolling around on the ground and it took 5 years until I got one of those fancy lift thingies to make the job easier. Today we are spoiled with all these toys, I mean tools, that make our jobs easier

I had to bend cut, grind and do some math on my current shifter setup. As long as I keep the fasteners snug and aligned it shifts fine but deff not perfect. I’m planning to do the SwapTime shifter and cable setup that he’s built for the 10l80. Gives me a reason to build the console I want.

Dang. The Torfab kit is only $1980 now? I paid like $2700 😂

I was looking to go this route with a connect and cruise package to have a fully new powertrain with warranty, but it’s a tough concept when engines are tough to source and GM is on the brink of recalling all of the LT’s anyways. I wonder if the tor kit works behind an L8T?
