Finished up the top. Got it all treated and sealed. Not sure when it goes on.

back when Lee Majors was still sprung under and not broke all the time. The top went on always around my birthday 2 November and came back off for the Round up.

So I took Patina for a nice drive last week and the spare tire carrier is making so much noise it’s driving me nuts.

I put a ratchet strap on it and it stopped all the movement but obviously that won’t work for when the top is on.

I thought maybe the bushings were toast on the swingout but they are tight. Turns out the lower mount has completely broken through the body.

Funny. I never had a problem with the 29” tire :snowball:

Just for reference this is the 235/85 next to 33x10.50 On the same width rim

So I looked around the internets and tried to find a good spare tire holder that’s not a full bumper.

And one of the best fabricator/vendors in the Land Cruiser universe 4Plus Products makes a sweet kit that uses the frame and not the body and in the end won’t make Patina look any different

To get this guy on though I will have to remove my bumperettes that are welded on.

Why the F would anyone weld these on?

Cutoff wheel and grinder. Lots of both.

@lcwizard will be shipping the product tomorrow. I’m glad I got a head start on the prep. I ground it all down clean. What a bunch of crap.

I broke one bolt. Of course it’s one I need for the new carrier. I will tap it out later.

Treated the rust and plugged the old holes

In proper Project Patina style I am not going to paint the ground out welds. They will color up and blend in soon.

@AndyO78FJ40 has a beat up set of bumperettes he might sell you if you ask nicely.

I got the swing-out today. Shipped Monday.

Super high quality setup and ROCK solid. Almost zero flex in the tire banging on it.

I was sad when I realized none of the rear crossmember holes I cleaned up were used and I had to drill 4 1/2” holes.

Not because I care about the holes it’s just that I’m still tired from the Pig Lift install and 4 holes seemed daunting.

It wasn’t. I had them done in about :45

Whole install was about 2 hours. Super easy. Love it. Great job @lcwizard

Took a load of camping gear to the lake and having zero rattles is almost hard to believe. This tire carrier is a dream come true.

I added some Boss air bags to Patina in anticipation of the hard top and 4Plus carrier making it a California prerunner

These things are super slick. Bolt in to the bumpstop spot. I’ve had them on the 60 for a while and they are awesome

As luck would have it, my phat 3” exhaust was exactly where my airbag needed to be on the drivers side.

I swapped the bottom bracket 180* and outboarded the upper mount via 1/4” angle iron

Three more frame holes. That’s about 10 this month including the Pig suspension. Whipping.

Bottom pic is side side of 25# and empty. Lifted it 3” which obviously will never be necessary but I wanted a pic.

Seems a bit overkill on a 40 no, never seen a rear sagging with just the addition of a tire carrier? It is a Land Cruiser though, ok by me to over engineer  Are these the same bags you used on the 100, been wanting to pick up a pair for when i'm towing ...

Tucker

It was already sagging from age. Add carrier and I’m about to put the top on and load it up for a long weekend with gear.

It’s usually fixed with new springs. I opted to try this first.
