The rear tires will move back a little as they stuff upwards. I think it looks tits man!! I can't wait to see this thing as it comes together.

When I get back home later in the week I can measure from B pillar to the rear wall on hatchet to give you a reference. As Johnny said, I think we cut Hatchet a little too short and didn’t really gain much by doing so.
I know you wished hatchet was a touch longer, but why? Head room? Seat room? Storage? Because of the angle of the rear hatch this should leave plenty of room for storage and seat clearance. My only concern is head room, especially with the cage being inside. I’m about to pull all the tube out and get it mocked up as you and @GLTHFJ60 suggested and see if I like it. I might even start on the lower cab corners to see where they land.

Mostly seat room, but also because there was really no benefit to making it as short as we did. If it was 3” longer I wouldn’t loose anything in terms of functionality, but it would make a big difference in seat positioning.

I'm out of 80 tubs for you to cut up. This build needs more spray paint. Or Will Ferrell playing a cow bell.

Those will look really good smashed into a prune-like shape.
I know!!! I keep trying to remind myself it’s a crawler, but then I get excited about how cool it’s looking. Screw it, im here and it’s happening.

In other news I was just starting to do some more trimming so I can fit things together properly, and I realized that Toyota wanted this to happen. The body mounts line up!

Shortest roof ribs ever! Am I going too far? Probably. Is it turning out cool? I sure think so, and it’s my truck so no one else’s opinion matters.

I considered cutting down some rails and a roof rack, but after seeing it together, it would just be too short

Does Yakima make a roof rack that short? :)

Finished up the roof fitment, so I hung the rear hatch, and started mocking up the quarters more to see what fitment problems I’d have there. As it turns out, there are a couple. The dimensions of an 80 definitely change from front to back.

The body line below the window matches to the door pretty well, but it’s nowhere near matching the hatch vertically. Then there’s the body line around the back/bottom portion of the quarter window. Nightmare!

I think my dreams of a bobbed/doved truck bed might be out the window with the length of the cab and axle placement, but this extended cab vibe has got me thinking about old jump seats from an 80s-90s s-10 or ranger.

I've always been a fan of the LC spoiler. but others hate it.
I like the spoilers as well, but tree limbs have a tendency of snapping off the ends.

I may be defeated in my dream for proper body lines. I’ve been staring at this thing for about 2 weeks, and the only way I see everything lining up correctly is to cut the bottom of the hatch off and stretch it down about 1/4-1/2 inch. I’m thinking that’s too much work and I’m pretty good with where things are at. It is a crawler after all, and I do plan on using it.

I’ll cut a little more out and hand form a piece to blend the area behind the quarter window. That was going to happen either way.

On a side note, I’ve been having so much fun playing with my RC trucks when I can’t play with real trucks, that I had to have some stickers made. I need to find an 80 model kit to chop up and use as the body for this thing.
