Yeah man! Once I can get my top and sides back on, after I get a new fuel sender in, I'll be ready to rip. Still some snow up here, and they salted the roads yesterday with the recent snow / sleet, but we'll be cleaned up and ready to rip soon, I hope.

Where about in Mass are ya? Near florida trail? That was our favorate stomping ground for many years... Got tore up and trashed by locals ( I don't think many cruiser guys drag out their washer and dryer and drop them off in the woods there) lol

We usually get a pass to Sturbridge and go there a few times a year... Love the historic homes :)

I've driven mine at times throughout the winter in Western Albany county and even ran up into VT a few times, so shot right through Troy, even stopped at the Ruck. I loaded the bottom down with fluid film and I didn't drive it too much. It's the first season using Fluid Film, but I've heard great things about it, so hope I protected it.

I usually use stuff called "open gear spray lube" ... But this next year I am going to try my own mix ... Oil wax like used in VT ...

I used some fluid film on the inside engine area firewall ... Seems to have held up really good... Should have used it on my rear doors :(

I will be making aluminum doors at some point lol

I try to avoid the Troylet ... But... Kids got swim lessons at RPI ... Stuck going now every Saturday ... All I got to say is I hope they learn fast ... Somebody needs to stop me from sinking to the bottom :)

I know all about oiling down the underside. Just messy as hell. Eh Troy's fine - The Ruck alone is worth it, great suds selection, good wings, shuffleboard table - nothing wrong with any of that. Troy farmers market is good, the Placid Bakers pretzels are worth it alone and I will make the drive from the albany/schoharie county line for them.

Hoosick Street however is a s*** hole.

And what the hell is the deal with Man of Kent in Hoosick on RT 7? It's like the guys serving the cure for cancer out of there.

Love the Mo'K my wife spent several years in England and it reminds here if the pubs there.. Others feel the same I guess ... You get attached to going there... Crazy people getting attached to material things LOL :meh:

I believe tyke used to go there as well

Hoosick street is always bad ... And always seem to be on it when traveling thru :)

We do have some specific places we like ... LoPorto's (had our rehearsal dinner when he also ran Sign of the tree) great chef

X's and O's for the desserts :)

Wife goes to her (and daughters) haircut place there

We also march in the Flag Day parade (largest in the nation) ... My kids are in Young Marines and I help run the 'club' with a few crazy marines ...

(Shameless plug :) )
If you know of any kids 8-18 that would be interested we are starting up a new recuit class soon...

Well replaced everything I needed to do (shocks, rear rotors and pads, e-brake shoes, air cleaner... Etc. ) on the wife car and then got it inspected... Passed :) Thursday

She was backing out the driveway and didn't see the truck backing into the driveway to do an about face ... Back window is smashed... All 4 kids in car with wife the driver of the truck irate and screaming at her... Police called ... Not to fun today :( no damage to his work truck ... Sienna lost that battle

Needless to say the only thing I had to do to my fj40 was replace the aftermarket steering stabilizer ... No time now :(

Good thing I have Glendora to come over and lift spirits tomorrow lol

Should get a pic with her climb in my cruiser since wife car can't get her now... Fun lady... Fruitful happy life

After having used Fluid film for the past 2 winters in a very salty Omaha on the wifes DD 4RNR and my winter DD Chevy, and one Cleveland winter with my K5 (all 100% rust free Oregon vehicles prior to this) I have the following observations:

-I have sprayed them in the fall while it's still warm and have not touched up during the winter. I got the spray kit from Kellsport with the long flexible nozzles and 360 degree tips. You must go this route. Spray cans don't cut it for getting up in the frame.
- On my '05 Chevy the fluid film really effects the adhesion of the factory frame paint, which is crap to begin with. When the fluid film is freshly applied, it seems you can scrape away the factory paint with a fingernail.. It has done a great job on the Chevy, except on the forward body mounts for the cab right behind the front wheels which are always blasted with gravel and dirt. I had some surface rust on those this spring, but otherwise nothing.. I did however spend some time on some pretty muddy/sloppy dirt roads in Missouri over the winter, which will take the fluid film off.
- On the '96 4runner (with far superior factory frame paint and factory undercoating) the only corrosion I have found has been a couple of very small areas around the rear suspension link mounting points which I must have not covered well enough. I am going to touch them up this week and recoat. The 4runner has good mudguards and the tires don't "spray" dirt and rocks right onto the steel, which is what will eat the fluid film off in a hurry.
- Up above the spare tire and behind the wheel arch molding of the 4runner, it's still there after 2 years. I took the tire down and took all the trim off to spray the first time, and have only needed to spray the visible areas the second year.
- I think it's great stuff for areas not subjected to tire kickup and road spray.
-I will be mixing up a batch of waxoyl type stuff for use this winter for fenderwells and areas susceptible to tire spray

Looks like I will be relocating to the Newburgh, NY area shortly... so I will have to keep up (probably step up) on the rust prevention.

Johnny - Feel free to respond here or in IM if you have any comments/suggestions concerning that area in general..

That sucks! A roll of packing tape could fix that right up! Or like my cruiser run no rear window... Probably not as cool when it's on the van. :|

That's exactly what I did lol ... It's not the easiest to see but I used the packing tape to hold it all together ... I guess insurance adjusters don't work weekends?

The garage is full of kid things :meh:

Had a chance of rain... Needed protection :)

I actually thought of getting the glass totally out and driving it :)

But... The tailpipe is right out the back and I bet the exhaust will come right in ... Then I'll have more problems lol

I have some fluid film on my firewall ... It has held up really well and I do recommend it as well

The waxoyl is definitely a great way to go... I will be making a concoction at some point :)

Newburgh is lower NYS ... When I lived in LI we called it Upstate :)

I'll IM ya more of what I know

I'm local to Johnny and know the Hudson Valley pretty well. Let me know the info you're looking for. I'm native here 40+ years happy to help give insights.

Welcome in advance to the Hudson Valley. It's a great place.

@Chungas Revenge

Even though we were bummed about the smashed rear window ... It turned to delight .... Great thing appeared in the mail....

A "PSA Modulator" ... Went to work on it before anybody in the family could call out "dad in need help with..."

I originally put it right where I had the spinner/modulator on the Komatsu ... But driving style on my rig is much different then the Komatsu aka BigBirtha ... Switched it about 45deg to the left ... That feels to be the sweat spot :)

Works great! Looks great ! Kids love the new 'thing' daddy has

Thanks again Jeff!!!

Now that is one sweet technical update...May take awhile to dial in, the self aligning manual rectifier needs time to self calibrate....;)

It is a privilege sir to be part of "The one week resto".....:bounce:-:)-:bounce:-:)-:bounce:-:)-:bounce:-:)-

Can't remember Johnny if you installed power steering. If not I want a report of what happens the first time you hit a rock and the wheel spins out of your hands. I never wrap my thumbs around wheel to keep the spokes from hitting my thumbs. That pretty knob going be even trickier to avoid when the steering wheel decides it's going in the other direct.

Besides the awesome PSA Modulator that made yesterday a great day... We also had over an awesome lady ... Glendora

Glendora has been in TV since the 1950's mostly public TV ... She turned 87 years old ... Had her over for dinner and birthday cake... She loved the ride in the cruiser

Turns out (unbenounced to me) she is somewhat of a car gal... She owns a 1982 Lincoln Continental with a 5.0 Windsor ... Unfortunately she doesn't drive anymore... I will have to see it at some point :)

We had a great chat about venturi carburetors along the drive to our home

Glendora is one of those people who just brings smiles to those who get to know her... She is full of energy and kindness ... And ... colorful inside as well as outside :meh:

Lol
