So… the ARB out of stock glitch worked, bumper just arrived today. Hopefully I can get it on the truck this weekend. This box is massive, it took up the entire width of the delivery truck.

The one thing I’m concerned about is clearance for the winch control box, since the LX grille is attached to the hood. I hope that I will still be able to mount it on top of the bumper, otherwise I don’t know where I would put it.

Just need front/rear lockers, scrub bars, raptor lights, a roof rack, awning, RTT, and 35s on beadlocks, then I’ll finally be able to tackle Flagpole on my own.
which bumper did you get? on my lx the PO had to cut the antenna mounts off and the grill still touches but im used to it and just push it in a little.

03-07 ARB 100 deluxe (3413190), which is apparently the one to get for the LX since it sticks out a bit more than the 98-02 model. Cutting the antenna tabs off will be the first thing I do.

Not sure how the ARB of an 80 compares to the 100 but on the 80, its a front mount not a bottom mount winch plate. The badlands Apex can only mount one way and you can't clock the control box (I took it apart and can confirm this) so it needs to be pointed toward the engine "mounted on its side". Also for the 80 I needed spacer blocks to push the winch back towards the engine as the bumper tapers too much to mount it right against the face (so you'll need to buy hardware for this).
Fortunately I think the newer revision of the 100 bumper is a bit better suited for the Badlands Apex - there's a video of someone on YouTube doing the install on a LC 100 and they needed 2 longer bolts to mount the fairlead, but I don't think any spacers were required.

Did the driverside install on the one stone 70 series arm rest, lots of dremelling, test fitting and more dremelling. Think I have about 3 hours into this side making it fit exactly how I want but man is it worth it the drive to work this morning was awesome. Big interior improvement!

I got the knock off ones in my 70, bought them from zack who wanted to do the same thing. They are crazy comfortable, and after having your drink there, you don't wanna use any other cup holder

i noticed on my way into work lol

That;s gonna be some prime real estate for a trucker tan next summer.

Great attention to detail! I think I've seen this done for the 80 too...would be nice with the skinny window ledge that isn't comfortable in the summer in short sleeves for long rides. May need to look further into this!

Made some progress on the ARB install, I think it’s ready to go on the truck when the rain finally stops… but I’m not entirely sure about the three black/red/yellow wires coming out of the control box.

I followed the manual’s instructions on relocating the control box, should I be worrying that the copper and the wires themselves are directly exposed to all the elements?

When you install the winch with the normal control box positioning, there’s a plastic piece somewhat covering them. However, after the relocation, there’s no way to mount that plastic cover piece.

Where you have the box mounted will make it difficult to access the hood latch on an lx. We ran into that problem on Fred's that's why his box is offset to one side until we relocate it somewhere under the hood

his is on a dissent bumper and with the box in the center it was pretty difficult to get your hands in between the control box and the grille to press the release handle for the hood. idk if the ARB will be any different but it appears that you are going to run into the same space issues idk :meh:

the contacts will be fine if your worried about the weather you could wipe them down with some dielectric grease

I thought I would have to move it to the side, but did a test fit earlier on the truck and it actually opened and cleared just fine.

The box is bolted down pretty tight right now and I like the centered look, so if I run into issues, I'm thinking I could put a strap on the latch?

I relocated the badlands box on my GX and it looks like that. Put some dielectric grease on all of the bolts and nuts before you tighten them down and it will be fine. I'm on year 4 or 5 as a daily and the winch is still perfectly.

You may want to consider having a way to disconnect the winch’s power wire from the battery when not in use. In a minor fender bender accident if the insulation on that big power wire gets cut and shorts to ground it could cause an instant fire. 🔥

Food for thought.
This ^^^ Not that expensive from a marine store, and good security if you do happen to get into a front end accident on the road.

The Warn winch recommends running an isolation device on the power cable.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Badland kit comes with a cutoff switch, so that’s certainly getting installed when I do the wiring. I had actually already bought another cutoff switch, so if anyone needs one, let me know.

Put the bumper on the truck yesterday, in addition to the wiring for the winch, I still need to do the turn signals, but hopefully I can find time for that in the next few days and wrap up this project.

Not sure how good the arb instructions are, but for the Ironman which copied ARB the instructions sucked for wiring and the wire colors did not match what was in the instructions, so if that's the case test the wires instead of assuming something.
