Pretty quiet in here... what are you working on?

I got my one remaining knuckle stud nut on, did a half ass eyeball alignment and took my 40 for a drive for the first time in a month. :D

I've come to an impass on the drum brake job.
The parking brake adjustment is tight and I can't seem to find the locking lever through the access port on the backside. The drum is effectively locked on and I've cracked the two bolt holes on the front used to press the drum off. This is on a 1997 4runner and the locking tabs are configured like the pic below. The pic was the pass rear before I replaced seal and installed new parts.

The drivers side drum is stuck.

I've tried prying, but as you can see that's not working. I'm going to fiddle with the adjuster and see if I can find the locking lever. If not maybe just cut the drum off, but of course I want to avoid this.

Ideas?

Spray some rust release in the hole onto the threads of the adjuster. The shoes may have bonded to the drum so after moving the adjuster in, you have to hammer the outside of the drum along the shoe mating surface then the face of the drum to knock them loose. You may also have to crack the bleeder to release pressure in case it is still pressing.

Yep, get it close, then back up and pull. Just remember to loosen the cable a bit 1st so you build in some later adjustment.

Got my 40 aligned at Warrenton Tire and Auto. Confirmed diagnosis of cracked thermo reactor exhaust manifold with @OTRAMM.

I'm almost ready for winter. I finally made the bows for my softtop. Just have to get my rear heater in.

Any one have a set of lower door hinges I can't find mine! My door are hanging by the uppers.

If you're looking for the hinge side that mounts to the door, I have extras on my extra doors.

Thanks but I'm looking for the side that bolts to the cowl.

I put new relay rod ends and a new steering damper and Rhea's 80. Tightened up the adjustment on the steering box and boy, what a difference. Nifty what happens when you replace worn parts.

I need to have someone drive mine and see if the slop is normal or if i need to tighten something. my first reaction was that it was too much, but the mechanic i took it to said i was just too used to small cars with tight steering.

Where do you live? If you're close we can arrange a test drive.
