Pretty quiet in here... what are you working on?

Thanks for the offers for help. I'm going to the meeting tonight and will pitch my offer hat in hand (actually beer in hand) and see if there is anyone else who wants to join me. As side note, the thought of using my motorcycle loading ramp to walk the top up and set it down on the back did come to me. While inside the top it occurred to me just how many ways my plan could go horribly wrong, beginning with my back or a wonderful slip down a ramp angled at about 60 degrees, trying to balance the top like an ant teetering a watermelon slice up a river bank. I got inside to see just how "do-able" it was. Long story short, after a couple of lifts my back said no thank you. Actually it said "Hell No!"... Call it the 40s and another realization that things "ain't what they used to be."

As far as cutting the C-pillers... Well, call me a Toyota purist but I'm trying to keep it as stock as possible sans the electronic ignition and a few other things that are just not available anymore.

Trying to get back to this:

Not Tucson... Although with all the rain, the sun would be nice... Just putting the top back on the FJ 40 for the fall and winter.

I need some help putting the top back on my FJ 40. My Girlfriend and I tried with the help of our neighbor last weekend, but it did not work out... two females and me trying to lift it up and onto the vehicle was a no-go from the start. Rather than create more of a problem we scooted the top back in to the garage and now I'm asking for help. There is also the issue with remounting the doors. They were taken off at the door frame because the hinge pins wouldn't budge. And we all know about that b***h bolt at the top of the hinge.

Julie, my girlfriend, and I will make it worth your while. We plan to have Rocklands Barbecue delivered and plenty of adult beverages. This includes a collection of nice whiskeys for the rugged aficionados (Looking at you Jeff) and some cigars. Our place is right off of the GW Parkway close to the Potomac, maybe we could do a "Land Cruiser Cruise" up and down the Parkway before or afterward if the weather is good? It is a nice drive with plenty of other classics likely to be on the road with us. Just a suggestion if we want to make it a fun club thing beyond the barbecue and beer. I was thinking SATURDAY 17 OCTOBER 2015, but am somewhat flexible with the dates to make it work. Please let me know.

Curt

If anyone can make it this Saturday, 17 October 2015 at 1pm to help me install my FJ40 top and enjoy some fun, please let me know by this Friday. I need a number for food and beverages. There will be bocci ball, good conversation, good scenery (we are not far from the Potomac River), and maybe a cruise on the GW Parkway (using good sense not to drink and drive:)).

Thanks all!

If I can get the last bits Fall Crawl prep done in the morning, I can probably be there. Looks like the weather's going to cooperate.

Curt, I'll do my best to make it over on Saturday.

Thank you all. It's nice to have the top back on. I couldn't have done it without the help. Aside from some fitting issues from sitting on some blocks, it went well. Also, I say this every time... This is that last time I take off the top, after all of that work re-installing it.

Looks good!!

Couldn't make it to Fall Crawl so I took advantage of the great weather and built my 40 a winter home.

Finish cb install
Coolant flush
Replace thermostat
Fan clutch replacement
Brainstorn better air flow to radiator. Savage bumper and satoshi mod impeding cooling
Possible secondary electric pusher fan
Install separate transmission cooler
Engine oil and filter change
Led swap for gauge cluster, center console, accessory lights
Explore vhf transceiver mounting under cb and under ashtray slot, but cooling will be an issue
Rear diff breather extension

Drink coffee and swear

Looks like at some point Asian red and western green were mixed and slimed the cooling system. There are some crunchies around the inside of the rad cap and what is draining looks like iced tea with silt.
Funny how's it's the little things that cause issues.

Happy there is no oil mix.

Also looks like the radiator and shroud is too skinny, mounted too far from the fan, and the fan is way too close to the upper rad hose.

Put a new fuel pump in the 40, and now that I have fuel getting to the carb, it's leaking out of several seams and orifices. Looks like a rebuild is in order. Maybe it's time to go back to an Aisin?

The fan looks like it is correct in the shroud. From everything I've read nly Half the fan should be in the shroud.
Now the hose does look to close. May just be the angle of the pic.

Nope. It's that close. Need to fix that. Think I can shorten the overall length, then stretch the angled portion towards the engine. Would give maybe an inch of room instead of a quarter inch. Alternatively I could raise the radiator in height, but that looks like more of a hassle.
Just received fan clutch and thermostat from amazon. If I remotivate I'll go mess around.
