What is the electrical fire hazard behind it on the firewall?

That melted mess is the modulator for the EGR. The EGR is the metal spaceship to the right of the melted plastic.

Is that the engine that was replaced for you about a year ago ? Modulator looks like It was torched.!? I thought the one that blew was a S/C engine you may have same avatar. Sorry If I'm mistaken..!

The EGR modulator can melt if it's internal diaphragm develops a leak. When that happens, blazing hot exhaust gas is constantly leaking through the plastic modulator. A new modulator won't melt.

according to Beno, the EGR modulator is 85$ in a quote he sent me while I am diagnosing my EGR faults

That's impressive. How did you notice it? Did the car start acting weird or did it explode while you were driving?

Check your fuses

So the ECU didn't fix it but it read an error code from the MAF. One MAF later it runs like a champ! Unfortunately it wasn't my MAF so I guess I'll post in the parts needed thread.
What did you do to get your obd2 port working?
