60 don't care

(Apologies for portrait style, was trying to also make compatible with IG)

While I wait for organ parts to arrive for surgery, I decided to make use of my time to complete cosmetic touch ups on Peaches. I bought rhino liner grade foam mat to lay down and replace the oem carpet. Being that's its Arizona, you can see it's already dirty.

i was shopping around for a center console, and noticed that Tuffy Brand was out of my budget. I also noticed that there aren't any insulation consoles from other companies either. Here is a little diy I completed to keep the road sodas "ice cold." If you're interested I can send you one for $10.00 plus shipping and handling

my hydrologic door springs gave out before I bough Peaches, and here @Cruddz Completed an oem "one off" place holder. CAUTION: if you plan on using this mechanism, please use diamond grade razors for precise slicing and sizing.

This weekend I broke down between Tucson and Phoenix with the initial plan to do the leaf spring bushings, however my car wouldn’t move! When we unbolted the T-Case drain plug, there was ZERO gear fluid in there. So we began to remove the trans/t-case combo. This is the trans shifter that ought to be covered to prevent gobbly-goo-gop from going into the trans.

this is a SST (Specialized Service Tool) that worked wonders on those difficult-to-reach areas on the undercarriage.

this bottle jack was slightly used to assist with the weight of the combo, however the idea was scrapped (notice the placement of bottle jack for optimum stabilization.

the top bolts holding the trans were unbelievably difficult to come off. Here @Cruddz applies a vintage flame-thrower to the troublesome bolt which causes the bolt to expand and loosen its grip. Oddly enough, the lower transmission bolt was hand-tight.

here is evidence of the strength of the trans bolts. It broke 3 extensions. Fortunately, we were able to remove the trans-t-case combo after some wiggling and jiggling. You must ensure that all sensors are disconnected. Also, the cross member supporting the trans needs to be removed (image not included)

Might have been more than fluid levels going on there.:)

A hearing test might help you prevent this in the future?

Ouch! Have any lines on a replacement? Do a H55 swap while you've got it out? $$$$

Cruddz owns an LC boneyard, and the plan is to use the t-case from an FJ-62, but will need to be converted from vacuum actuation 4WD to shift. I hear good things about the H55, but that is not an option at this point.

Cruddz pulled an entire power plant out of his 62, and also found a transfercase rebuild kit for cheap.
Plan: rebuild t-case, pick up fly wheel from machine shop, put in new clutch kit.
Not sure how much of this ambitious plan we can get done, but work starts tonight.

Stay tuned...

This is a very in depth depiction of the internal gearing system of the FJ-62 “split-case” transfercase.

please take note of the appropriate length of the sprocket teeth (compare to previous images from earlier post).

I’ve had Peaches back for a week now, is running very well after the upgrades to include: 62 t-case (machine work required), rear main seal, clutch kit, new rear shackle and leaf spring bushings. Additionally, I also have a new center console! All mechanic work completed by @Cruddz. I have not wheeled it, to my disappointment, but it has been utilized for domesticated purposes, such as getting a mattress and Christmas tree!

next plan is to get the spark plug wires, desmog, water pump replacement, and get some other updates and upgrades!

Just promise that you're never, ever gonna paint it. That's a shade of blue that only the desert can make.
