How’s it going everyone, I’ve had an FJ60 thread going for a few months now and I figured, since this truck is going to be A LOT of work, I might as well post it’s progress to a build thread of its own! It’ll be a few months before I even touch it (6 vehicles are in line ahead of it to be built/parted out) but I might as well get this thread started!
I’ve been eyeing this truck since April 2019 and finally pulled the trigger in Jan 2020.
It’s missing front shocks, spring bolts, U bolts, just about every interior piece, hatch hinges and glass, engine is seized, there’s a big hole in the floor, the drivers door was stuck closed, steering wheel is incorrect, has 3 different sized tires on two different types of rim, has a pipe body lift that must be 4 inches, the thing is a disaster but I knew I had to have it and have what it takes to bring it back to life!
It came with a large parts pile, the specifics of which I’m not sure of yet but I’ll post pics as I go through it. The 22R in it has a weber and a header, and it came with a good 22R and a torn-apart blown HG 22R. Also came with exhaust, OEM hub caps, “tow” mirrors, AC stuff (has compressor and under dash vents), LCE dual row timing chain kit, some of the missing suspension stuff, the blue SR5 steering wheel it needs, etc.
My engine dilemma is whether I want to keep it 22R + weber and header, build a 20/22R hybrid, or 22RE swap it. Most likely going rebuilt 22R.
No matter what engine I go with, it’s getting the W56 out of my 87 4runner. Going to part it out to bring the Trekker and an 85 4runner back to life, the Trekker is also getting its seats, stock body mount bushings, and I’m sure some other odds and ends.
Step 1 will be taking it home (currently in storage), wire wheeling and painting the frame (since there’s plenty of room down there now!!), and then swapping the god-awful body lift out with stock stuff. Then I’ll pull the engine and trans, and probably tuck it back away in storage while more parts get ordered and I build whatever engine I decide to go with.
This engine, and the W56, will then be mated and installed into papa smurf. Not sure if I’m going to paint the engine bay, but I’m going to scuff and shoot the exterior in a fresh coat of blue once the very minor fiberglass damage is fixed.
Will update and post more pics as I get started and tear into it, but for now I just have two questions! Best way to repair the slight fiberglass damage on the side (that I don’t have a pic of yet)? Best way to fix the big ol hole in the floor?
