My experiment with the tailgate emblem went well. Looks a bit different from all the other 80´s out there. I like that.

Looks nice...

Awesome rig, but this thread needs one more thing: you might need to make a third trip to that volcano and get a pic of your rig with all that cool lava and smoke in the background. That would be the icing on the cake!

I know! I really wanted that pic.... too bad the eruptions you could drive to have stopped. Oh, well, there will be other eruptions some day.

One pic from yesterday instead. Yesterday was the first day of summer according to the calender so of course I went on a camping/snowboarding trip.

Looks like you got the best spot in the campground!!!

Boy, those wheels look little with those fat tires.

No real updates on the Cruiser, I have just been driving it ;) Was looking through some of my pics from this summer and thought I might share a few just for fun.

This pic is taken somewhere on one of the two roads that lead through the Icelandic higland.

Some of my camping gear, my and my girlfriends dog, my truck and a beautiful summer morning by a beautiful lake.

Me feeling "arty" next to a old wooden fence.

IMG_5369.jpg

Two pics from one of the "coolest" roads in Iceland. Leads between two fjords. Goes under these high cliffs, only passable when the tide is out.

IMG_5750.jpg

Me feeling "arty" again, now close to a old abandoned tractor.

IMG_5719.jpg

We went to have a look at this abandoned herring factory. Built in 1936 to 7. Abandoned in 1952. The road to this place was made in 1975 or 6. Amazing place to see. The factory was left in fully working condition because it was to hard and expensive to move everything away by ship. You can still find canned food and new in the box spare parts in there. Too bad that in the last few years many people have been in there stealing and damaging what is left of it. When I came there for the first time 8 years ago it was in much better shape than it is to day.

Three pics of one of the roughest roads I have driven. Leads to a glacier in the west part of Iceland.

If you look hard, you can see a tiny LandCruiser in the middle of the pic.

Love that color blue. Nice pics, nice truck. Thanks for sharing.

great read. thanks. beautiful LC.

A little update.

Now when the winter is coming I finally finished piping the heating vents for the Webasto heater located under the passenger seat. I installed two vents for it, one facing front and one towards the rear seats. The pipes are hidden under the center console and the passenger seat. I can close the rear vent but the one in the front is always open.

IMG_6104.jpg

Then I had to get new winter tires, I bought a set of 38"tires designed by and made for Arctic Trucks.

2-3.jpg

Before, with my 37" GoodYears. My plan is to use these as summer tires.

1-2.jpg

When test fitting the new set. I will have to make a little more space in front of these to be able to make full turn while flexing.

New and the old tires next to each other.

Last week I had a strange failure, I noticed a strange smell and a the transmission started to fail, the brakes also became weak. I stopped and found that I had a ATF fluid leaking from the front of the truck. At first I suspected the tranny cooler to be leaking. Then when looking better into it I found this.
IMG_6108.jpg

This is the AC crankshaft pulley that I use to turn my York Compressor. The rubber bushing inside the pulley had failed, the pulley itself had fallen off an cut through one of the hoses to the tranny cooler causing the leak.
I have never heard of a fail like this before.

Awesome thread, insane build, great pictures, love it all

Beautiful country, great pics and a very nice truck, thanks for sharing

A real pleasure to read and see a great Cruiser in a beautiful country. Thanks!

great build and I like all the pictures, so don't be shy about posting more as you get around to it.

OMG! I thought I had trouble! Mine was just rolled and crushed when I repainted it. Looks like I had it easy! At least I didn't have to take the fenders and doors off. Just straighten the roof and both sides.
Nice job!

That's a pretty ridiculous build. Definitely impressed. Your craftsmanship is beyond excellent. What exactly do you do for a living? It must be engineering related.

Thanks again for all your great comments on my rig and my work!

What exactly do you do for a living? It must be engineering related.

I´m working in a small auto shop, we specialize in all sorts of electrical problems and aux equipment installations.
Plus that we repair all sorts of power tools and rough electrical stuff, welders, winches, power generators, high pressure washer and such.

I specialize in the electrical repairs, aux equipment installations plus and all sorts of modifications and repairs.
I have worked on many superjeeps for the rescue teams, fire rigs and ambulances, for the road administration, for the power companies. In the summer time we repair and install stuff into mobile homes, caravans and folding camping trailers.

We do almost anything our clients ask us to do with their cars and trucks, from changing light pulps to rebuilding old Massey Ferguson tractors. We stay out of rebuilding engines and transmissions though.

Here are pics of some of the rigs where I have installed all the aux electrical equipment.

These three pics are from the same rig, both of them have all the same stuff installed. These are owned by a Search and rescue team.

This Snow Cat is owned by the same SAR team.

robbi.jpg

This Defender was a SAR unit, it was replaced with one of the Patrols on the pic above.

lyfji.jpg

This Ford is a private rig. Probably one of the most modified truck in Iceland ;) These 41" tires are just for summer driving, in the winter time these are replaced with 6 49" beasts.

Thanks for the update Haffi! Great pics.
