Fitment testing

This was the goal to stuff the tires inside the fenders.

Minimal rubbing during the day.

Went out with @Shoredreamer to Holister to do some fitment tests with the new tires.

I am pretty happy with the results so far with light wheeling. Looks like I have some minimal massaging to do for good stuffage.

Rear lowers fit the tire perfectly into the wheel arch. Bumpers also are clearing nicely.

Then it will be time to push the shocks down so I can turn the loss of up travel into downtravel.

What’s your plan for lowering your shocks? I was thinking the same to gain some down travel. Seen a few small square tube brackets bolted to the front axle side shock mount and the shock pin into the top of the square tube to raise the lower mount up.

It was good chatting with you yesterday, good job getting out for some wheeling/tire testing !

Just a few questions, what lift do you have and does it measure out to 2.5", what is the actual measurement of the Yokohama's, how wide are the Icon's ( what's the back spacing) and what size bump stop extensions are you using ?
I think this info could help other doing a low lift with 37s

JMHO As far as the down travel, I don't think you gain anything, with the stock suspension you only get so much articulation ( the stock bushings bind ) so longer shocks or lowering them only gains you down travel in full droop ( both wheels straight down ) and if you have ever seen a rig up on the rack with a lot of down travel then you have seen what it does to the suspension and bushings, and it's not good !! not to mention that all the hoses running down to the axle have to be addressed ( make sure there long enough )
Because of this I ended up removing the 12" travel shocks for 10" shocks.
Getting the most articulation out of the stock suspension eats up the stock bushings, I just replaced mine again

No rims Yokos measure 35.5

Icons are 4.75 back spacing 8.5 wide 0 offset

Kong bump stop 1.5 or 2 inch I forget

When I lifted the body from one side with a hi-lift my shocks were limiting my droop.

I need a fork lift..

Bolts are glued on I got them at the mall...

Oh wait that was piercings

They are icon inner lock technology, so the bolt goes through the rim and behind the bead. Dot approved and way less hassle. I had issues with the methods, probably user error as usual.

How long are the shock you are running.

Agreed Bead locks are a pain in the a** . the inner lock technology looks sweet and the price is right. to bad the back spacing is not right for my rig. for reference stock wheels= 4.5" back spacing with true 37" tires no cutting on the rear fully stuffed

slight rubbing to the frame and inner wheel well. 38.5" x 12.50 tires on 8.5 wide rims with 3.75" back spacing also full stuff.


37" tall tires that only measure 35.5" is criminal !!!

I broke the radius arm bracket after driving the guantlet without looking at it. Almost fixed it with Nick before the rest of the group made it up.

I designed some radius arm reinforcement plates after this.

How did your bushing experiment turn out?
Those the more beef oem arms beefed up?

No issues at all with printed bushings, still have them in the rear uppers. Still wondering if the printed bushings allow for more articulation. Probably very minimal.

Just upgraded to the @Delta VS Beef cakes

They were the later model 80 series with some angle iron welded to them.

The older ones were larger diameter, but not sure if they are really any stronger the wall may be thinner, I have bent both before adding the angle iron, and now Chromoly..
