I'd never get anything done out there, beautiful country. Like your color choice, part of mine is red, but thinking of going Dune Beige. Hope my fenders fit, haven't got to that point yet.

What's up Hillbilly! Where abouts you from ? :D

Good to know on the ccot fenders. I was about to buy a set because I figured it would be easier to replace them than to repair the rust on mine... But the rust repair ain't looking too bad now!

Good thing you got better fenders... Build is coming out great!!

My Taiwanese front fenders did not last very long... Started rusting the 1st year when I brushed up to a tree with um ... And in ten years they were trash

If you want to see what they would have looked like in ten years goto my built thread.... They are on the first page

Thanks for the compliments guys. Sometimes I wonder if anyone is following along. Really hoping the factory fender gets here this week. I will be pulling my drivers side down from the shelf tomorrow to have a look. It's been nearly 2 years since I looked at them. I just remember being so burned out on body work and deciding to buy new ones. Now it's looking like body work on them might be easier. Fingers crossed.

Picked up my Toyota OEM passenger fender today!

Yeah I agree- there's really no risk with trying to fix it. If you mess it up, you aren't any worse off!

My fenders are rusted out in the usual spots like yours (above the supports and where the bracket is for the blinkers). Mine aren't quite as bad though... no offense. ;)

When I fix mine, I plan to weld in patches over the various gaps to prevent crud from building up in the crevices. I will also stitch weld all of the seams so no moisture can get in any of those spots. The oem design is really quite poor in that respect. Something to consider.

I paid 256.00, but I have a friend who works in the parts industry who hooked me up with a discount. I think the actual price is around 310.00 per side. Just take the part number to your Toyota dealership of choice. Now remember this fender is for later years. It isn't technically the right fender for a 1975. It fits perfectly though. I suppose a few of the holes for other accessories are different. The earlier years are not available anymore and even the drivers side is completely out of production.

What the Truck?

Initial rust repair result? It looks ok to me. It did get a bit of slight warpage. Nothing bad though. This all will smooth out with a skim coat, but worried that having any filler in that area will be trouble when I am off road. Seems like that area will be the most prone to bumps from rubbing trees etc. what do you guys think? Keep searching for a good used OEM fender or work on getting the CCOT to fit? Now that I have the passenger side OEM installed the drivers side looks close to fitting perfectly.

I'd roll with it. Filler or not, if it hits something, you'll want to fix it anyway. I went through the exact issues you are having. I bought one OEM fender and repaired the other. My repair looked about the same as yours.

Yeah, skim coat and move on man. That looks good enough. With bondo on the fender, my only concern would be rocks flying up and hitting the underside, causing a crack in the bondo. But the fender support underneath mostly protects it. So I wouldn't worry about it.

I ended up using the OEM Toyota fender on the passenger side and the CCOT fender on the drivers side. If took some work, but ultimately I am happy I did it. The patch job on the old drivers side fender was good, but it warped the fender a tad and would have required me to remove the fender mount/support in order to straighten it properly. Or a boat load of filler! I am happy that I have two new clean and straight fenders on the truck now.
