I suppose you have to get a running start to shimmy up that tent ladder? 😁View attachment 3636943
Of course not. Once enough electrons have arrived, it works like an escalator. Sheesh, I thought that'd be obvious? 🤔

When my ladder was south facing in the morning, this 160 watt panel was a perfect fit. Otherwise, it worked well as a windshield shade.

Darren, Frosty Shimo didn't go on this one: too many hours driving so she stayed home with Mama. You'll get to see her at BCOR though if you're able to make it.

Last night I did some post trip maintenance. The raised air intake sitting in my shop has moved up the priority list.

I'll blow out the filter but for now I put in the new one that arrived while I was gone. It's a wonder she could run at all!

I’m at the age where very few things are “obvious”. I seem to do better when the morning dose of fiber and caffeine kicks in. 😁

The morning clarity crap, you get it

Yep! You win! Ummm the prize is some slightly used BEBs. Only 297000kms on them. 🤣
Yay. Already have a used set though. Fit Garage did mine around the same KM. But I had been turbo’d for 100+ KM by previous owner. Interested to see how yours look.

Good to see a reference set even if mine has been atmo till now.

But since I'll have the sump off anyways... 😉 ... the oil drain has always been a little slow? Perhaps I'll make a larger hole along the side. You know .. for umm faster oil changes?

So previous owner has run it boosted? What was the setup/ how much psi? IIRC you've just done a rebuild. Was it because of the turbo do you think?

Dumb question but what type of head/socket are the BEB cap screws called?

I know the SST is 09011-381 21 but I am having trouble locating a set to fit

Are they considered to be 12 point?

EDIT: Disrequard.....looking further at jdm j's post he was kind enough to include pic of the craftman 12mm 12pt socket still on the card

No problem! As a side note, on every thread I've seen about doing the BEBs, the poster talks about how much force is required to crack those bolts, so 1/2 inch drive seemed prudent. All I need now is some assembly lube, some fipg and some plastigage. Thinking about doing it next weekend but I don't want to take the rig off the road for too long... So we'll see?

I'm not worried about the bearing cap bolts

Getting the pan off is the bitch of this job

Get a 1" wide smooth metal scraper/putty knife....you're going to need it to work around the seal to separate it from the block

Might need a plumbers torch too.....I did....to warm it up/add some persuasion

Once the pan was free from the block I also had to loosen the transmission brace on the side the starter is on in order to wiggle the back of the pan out

Could I place an order for a #4 to go please?

Order up!

How many kms when you did it? Is this the first change?

Yeah not looking forward to pan removal. Mine's never been done from what I can tell, and I'm sure the pan is quite happy to stay where it is... Equally daunting is cleaning off all the old gasket.

Its about 214,000 km on the clock and no indication that they've been done previously

They dont look terrible but they are due and I'm glad I decided to do them.

Crank on 3/4 looks ok, I need to mic it but dont expect any issues <knocks on wood>

Hope to have #4 bearings tonight

This will be spread out amongst tech stuff as I get time. But here's my Utah trip story start...

The rigs from here were:
-92 Pathy on 35's (with all kinds of race suspension, marlin crawler etc) hauling a small trailer...
-2015 Dodge Ram 3500 on 37s(?) with a custom topper, and it was kinda rattly... (maybe he should get that looked at? ;) )
-OLBETSY (91 HZJ77 on 33's)

We left from Strathmore, Alberta (the boys met me at work), and drove south to the Can/US border at Sweetgrass, then continued south to Helena for the night.

It was a late night arrival so hotel was the plan. The next morning we got up, and did it all over, stopping in Butte for food/beer, and the giant surplus place in Idaho Falls for who knows what you might find... From there it was south south south finally through the urban sprawl that is SLC (and some thunderstorms), ending for the night in Spanish Forks, where we got (another) hotel, because driving until dark gets harder, the older you get LOL...

Okay, laugh all you want but compared to a... umm... Ford Escape, my truck is absolutely intimidating! Grrr...

PXL_20240512_023602149 (1).jpg

Finally, we were just about at the dirt. We went south out of Spanish Fork, with our night's camping destination in mind - Alstrom Point!! (There we would meet up with the last member of our crew, in his 200 Series Landcruiser.)

To be continued...

I am not laughing one bit! Ol' Betz is certainly looking fiercely cute in the picture. Now if we really want to get to the nitty gritty of it all, she has character in heaps and leaves those others way, waaaay behind.

Just ask yourself, where that Ram will be in 33 years? My guess would be “a pick and pay” salvage
yard. 😊
