Tackled the birfields this weekend.
What a mess, but got it done…good times!
No grease in them, but fortunately there was oil in the axle.

Good week so far.
Fortunate to have a great neighbor that hooked me up with exhaust and tuned my carb.
Magnaflow muffler, sounds great and runs like a champ now.

Also added shocks. Went OE Monroe’s for now….until potential lift down the road.
A bonus was they match the color of the truck.
Old shocks = 100% worthless, even had a bent stud on the front.
Rides real nice now, but how couldn’t it!

Looks pretty good under there!

Nice! That is always a project you feel good after completing!
Did you get the pre-load all dialed in?
Definitely.
Now time to tackle the rear end….as soon as I can get the rear drums off.

Nothing too crazy today.
Replaced leaking pinion seal. Sorry, only the hero pics this time.
A little clean up tomorrow and will be looking good as new!

Parts and excellent service from @cruiseroutfit, per usual.

Cleaned up pic added.
Bonus, was also was able to get one of the rear drums off, so took care of that this morning.
Brakes good for now. Will be a good winter project.

Steering stabilizer this weekend plus a new to me bench seat.
Stabilizer was kind of a bear to get off, but eventually gave in.
Seat came from a Ford Ranger. Has some tears on the driver side, but that’s a project for another day.
Got it all cleaned up, threw a cover on it and good to go. 👍

its fitting when working on land cruisers that tear(rip) and tear(cry) are spelled the same. I first read your post, that I was thinking about someone crying in their cruiser.

If I do, I try to do it quietly.

While my Pig gently weeps (apologies to the Beatles).

Tackled the tailgate spring cover today…well most of it.
Was going real good. Didn’t take off the tailgate, just moved things around to paint and add a ton of surface shield.
As a bonus I was able to see more of the 55’s true color. Wire wheeled a bit of blue through the white.
Then the spring bar came off. 2 hours later, got it back on, but had to remove the large mounting screws connecting the tailgate to the spring on the passenger side.
Got almost all of the screws holding the cover in place and was working to get the big tailgate screws back in place and stripped one out, maybe 2. 😞
I have a plan to have a second set of hands help, but definitely need to find new screws.
Checking here to see if someone might have information or a part number or resource.
Thanks!
