Adding the hero shot.
Thanks @scrapdaddy and @RUSH55 for the advice.
Should have asked before stripping out screws.

Which brings up a bonus question.
Have a wonky gas gauge so have been researching and sounds like ground is the typical suspect.
Popped the inspection plate and the fuel sending unit has no ground?
Any advice is appreciated.

I don’t recall my tank having a dedicated ground, probably used to ground through the mounting bolts?

“Wonky” how?

Nice job on the bottom of the tailgate and tailgate opening! What paint/coating did you use there?
Thank you!

Wonky as in fill up, shows E or 1/4 tank.
Drive around, goes to 3/4. Same trip it will fluctuates to back between 1/4 and 3/4 randomly.
Parked goes to E or 1/4.

For most everything I am painting I’ve usually:
Chip off as much gunk as possible
Degrease
Wire wheel
Degrease
Brake cleaner
Alcohol (Both. cleaner for the truck, beer for me)
Rust Reformer
Rustoleum High Performance Enamel flat black, but looks like it has a little sheen.

Tackled the tailgate spring cover today…well most of it.
Was going real good. Didn’t take off the tailgate, just moved things around to paint and add a ton of surface shield.
As a bonus I was able to see more of the 55’s true color. Wire wheeled a bit of blue through the white.
Then the spring bar came off. 2 hours later, got it back on, but had to remove the large mounting screws connecting the tailgate to the spring on the passenger side.
Got almost all of the screws holding the cover in place and was working to get the big tailgate screws back in place and stripped one out, maybe 2. 😞
I have a plan to have a second set of hands help, but definitely need to find new screws.
Checking here to see if someone might have information or a part number or resource.
Thanks!

I cover the tailgate in a lot of detail in my build thread - link in my sig.

IIRC, there is a resistor in the gauge cluster that can flake out on you and give you inconsistent fuel level readings.
The sender itself can send weird readings if the wire winding/wrapping on the arm is corroded or worn through. One of the baffles in my stock tank broke loose and would sometimes block the travel of the float.

OK.
Went to the front passenger area.
My goal here is to make this drivable in any weather. Rain, snow, whatever. Not cosmetic because this will be covered with sound deadening, foam and the original floor mat. I’ll worry about fixing it correctly, sometime in the future.
This winter will work on the underside.
Cut, tacked, acid, rust reformer, sealed then painted…..Maybe a little heavy on the sealer.
Might need Rush’s assist on the welding in the future 🤷‍♂️
