hi all, just wanted to start this thread to see what options we have for fitting OEM or OEM style aftermarket fog lamps on our 40 series.

This whole thing started with my cruiser that had an OEM fog light switch installed, but no lights on the front bumper. I like the small OEM lights, and always wanted to complete this piece of the puzzle.
I know the OEM switch is a PITA to find, so I already have the hardest part. Trust me I did some sourcing and digging in the archive, but theres no good thread on this topic.

So far, I've seen a 2 options:

1) Go Toyota
Although i didnt expect it; but today my Toyota dealer in the Netherlands told me that they could still order both lamp unit (81210-60010) and bracket (81481-60010) from Toyota Europe. costs each: lamp 90 euros , and bracket 110 euros. So that would set me for almost 400 euros for a new set.

2) Go aftermarket
I've see the aftermarket Toyota fog lamp on chinese websites, but never got them to respond my emails. I know SOR sells the Chinese aftermarket, for 35 dollars each (including bracket), but they ask ridiculous shipping quotes to Europe (I expect them to ask something like 120 dollar shipping on an 80 dollar order:meh:)

Here are my questions:

- Are there other vendors, besides SOR, that sell the aftermarket lamp sets?

- What is the quality of these aftermarket lamps?

- other tips on getting the OEM brackets for a less ridicules price? ( I mean 220 euros for a set of 2, pfff )

- Toyota lists 2 versions of the lamps, 12v and 24v, are there any differences between those besides the included bulb?

- I've read that the OEM lamp uses a very hard to find yellow bulb with a weird socket.. is this only hard to get in the USA or everywhere? Does the aftermarket lamp from SOR use a more common type of bulb?

ok thats it, lets make this a useful Fog Light thread for everyone.:bounce:

I'd love to put some fog lamps on my '77. I'm subscribed to this thread to see what you find out.

Folkert, I'm in Southern CA right now and could pick those up and ship them to you for 'real' prices... I have to swing by anyway to pick up some stuff in a few weeks anyway.

I think it would be nice to know where to get an OEM fog light switch as well as any info on the original wiring harness setup.

You could do a nearly-exact reproduction with a hazard light switch and an amaurer-built repro knob.

I've got an in-dash diff lock switch that would convince almost anyone.

kraig, that would be great!!!! I'll PM you for details... thanks a million!!

Is that the right number for the mounts, or are they not available any more?

as I mentioned in the first post, I could stil order the OEM brackets at Toyota Amsterdam (Netherlands) dated november 20th 2011. not cheap though, about 115 euro each.. I used that part number as in the post.

I couldn't find that page last time I looked. I found something similar on craigslist a couple weeks ago and I wanted to compare.

Not easy to find, but here:

$80 a pair is a bargain. I may need to get a pair to match my rusty old bumper.

Here is a pair of newer-style OEM (JDM) fogs for sale in classifieds:

How well do the older style fogs work?

I have referenced this post for years... finally found a set that I believe to be OEM. The bracket on top is different than yours though. The internals changed from a screw for bulb access to a rubber grommet so there may be differences in years. The bulb in these are Koito and the internals are the grommet style.

Sure would be nice to convert those to an H4 style bulb. I like the look of those lights, but having to source replacement bulbs would be a PITA.
