I purchased a pair of the SOR fogs and was a bit disappointed, I had to repair the ground wires right outa the box, the ground wires were twisted on so I soldered them as they should have been. The bulb sockets were a pain to remove but was successful with a pair of channel lock pliers. I also painted the brackets otherwise they are just OK.

Someone previously was saying it looks difficult to take out bulbs for oem fog lights, let alone find new bulbs for them? Anyone ever find a way to switch to leds for oem or sor versions?

OEM is easy enough. You could put any bulb in there you wanted (that fit in the hole and the socket). It is the SOR reproductions that have no provision, that I can see, to replace the bulbs). I pried on one but was afraid it would break before the bulb base would separate from the reflector.

I used channel lock pliers and the sockets came right off, you can use any type of bulbs including LEDs.

For a low cost switch I would just refurbish a standard headlight switch with yellow ink. I've already used a paint pen to refurb my dash switches in white. Easy enough to switch colors and a lot cheaper.

Hi Ranma21
Do you still have a set of OEM fog lights to sell with OEM brackets?
Please let me know. Are they OEM for a 1971 FJ40
Thanks
Rick

Yes, just PM you. ;)

I would be interested as well. If you have a pair for sale, please PM me. Thanks!

You guys can also check out the Unobtainium thread. End to end solution.

Since I am part of this "end to end" solution, I need to post a bit of information concerning the different types of Fog Lights out there and how they come wired.

OEM: These are terminated with two bullet connectors, one male one female. Male is the Hot lead and female the ground. Oddly enough, some of the older literature shows the fog lights with two male bullets...

SOR: These are terminated with two bullet connectors but BOTH are MALE!

Racer65: These are OEM lights so are terminated the same as OEM.

So when you place an order for a Fog Light Harness, I need to know who the lights came from. I sent out a harness with the wrong connectors recently...
