an H4 would never work in those, the lights are way to small

but when is the last time you have seen a Kioto bulb burn out? my 65 fj45 is still running the original bulbs in many of its lights

I have 3 set of these OEM fog lights stashed away(and one set on my 45). I understand there are still some in the US even.......you just need an old VIN # to order them, I loaned my parts guy a VIN from my 66 so he could get them for someone

I use the OEM fog light switch in my 82 Fj40, I had to get it out of a old boxed set of Toyota amber fogs(not the same as shown)

Sure would be nice to convert those to an H4 style bulb. I like the look of those lights, but having to source replacement bulbs would be a PITA.

Beno can get the original lights for about $80 each, but not the brackets.

The light + bracket combo are still avilable at SOR for $40 each + $&H.

A switch for anybody that's looking for one... I think this is the 3rd or 4th he's put up for auction. They're getting cheaper each time...

Has anybody seen one of these in an early rig (ribbed dash)? Interested to know where it was originally installed?

I got mine many years(8?) ago from my local dealer, I may have been the 1st one to find the part # and have luck getting the lights, I think back then they had to make the boat trip from Japan. I had all the info posted up at my old picturetrail site....but I let that site go this year. Back then they came wrapped in neat little packing, like those nets the spendy pears come in.

groovy little lights....but they IMOP don't have much output and seem like more of a marker light. I have changed over to Cibie Oscar Plus yellow fogs on most of my Cruisers.......look good but they also really work well

I find it hard to imagine that SOR's lights are not the real deal, who the heck would make repro's of these? (when OEM are still out there)

BTW my parts guy could not get a set of the OEM fogs out of the Toyota werehouse in CA.....even with a old VIN, this was in the last month. WTF is wrong with Toy? they have the parts but wont sell them......

Epic find. Where'd you find them?

Lost track of when I got my first pair. Old part books had the ten digit part number which is something the dealers do not have in their parts system. Very few had old parts books or micro-fiche and willing to look up. With this number a dealer located a set in non US parts warehouse located in CA. Dealer was able get them at that time. Since that time Toyota has cracked down on selling non US imported parts. The H55F seems to be a exception while pre 3/69 parts that are not listed may not be able to. Heard that some dealers are unable to get 61-67 windshield wiper motor because it not in the system and must be a non import part.:bang: I believe you can make a case with Toyota for any standard parts. Optional like fog lights is another matter. My second set of fog lights I bought off eBay and were not thru Toyota but made in Japan. The seller was a mudder and brought in a one time (as in carry on the plane with him from Japan) batch of mounting brackets. This is someone who was very close to Marv and guessing how SOR is selling these. There is no difference between the lights off eBay and the ones thru Toyota. Even with S&H from SOR still cheaper than Toyota if you can get them plus includes the mounting bracket Toyota no longer sells. My guess the only reason Toyota even has them in their system at all is because in the Middle East they were a very popular option or standard. Question is what is the price of the fog light switch in the Middle East and can we find someone to buy a bunch and ship to the US. The one linked off eBay are pretty pricey. Not willing to paid that much for switch I don't believe was used until the early seventies and probably use might on early sixties cruisers.

I picked up a set of the SOR reproductions as well to see what the differences were. Based on the weight alone, the quality of the OEM ones are better but, the reproductions are not that far off. The only odd thing I noticed is there is no provision to replace the bulb on the reproductions other than heating them up in the oven and removing the glass. I pried on the back and decided it wasn't meant to come apart that way.

interesting, the SOR are a repro.

My second set are just the originals. Are repo made in Japan? I also notice the finish on the mounting bracket is rough compared to the ones I have. Not by my right now but I believe they are farely smooth with gold CAD finish.

As cheap as SOR is selling those factory lookalikes, I doubt they are even close to the quality as factory units.

I have attached pics of both my brackets and the dash knob for the fog lights. The knob is found on late model FJ40's and FJ45's here in Saudi. The color is correct based on the three I have seen here. Brackets were out of the UAE and fog lights themselves were available locally.

Interesting to note that the brackets were not cad-plated like a previous pic but appear to be some sort of galvanized or zinc'd finish.

On a side note, the SOR brackets will rust quickly if exposed to humidity (at least over here). I would recommend painting or powder coating as soon as possible.

Sure would be nice to get those brackets here in the states....

I found the supplier of the repro's a long time ago but at the time you could still get the originals so I didn't pursue it. I see SOR found them. It was out of Taiwan I think.

From just looking them taking out of the box they look ok. We'll see how fit is. My 40 isnt all stock so going completely Toyota isnt essential for me. But i still want quality.

Which switch can I use instead of the oem fog light switch again? Id rather have my money spent elsewhere especially if it costs more than the fog lights.

Anyone has the part number of the switch?
