Does anybody have specs for some of the 78 era changes.

Specifically:
  • ambulance door hinges - both hinge to door and hinge to body (M6 phillips)
  • the corner brackets at top of ambulance door opening (M6 phillips?)
  • the upper and lower ambulance latch catches - beveled phillips head
  • gas tank cover under pass seat - my truck had a mix of hex head AND hex head WITH a phillips slot both M6.

  • ambulance door hinges - both hinge to door and hinge to body (M6 phillips) = M6x16 Pan Head Philips Screw, Split Lock Washer, Split Flatwasher, Qty 28 needed for all 4 hinges
  • the corner brackets at top of ambulance door opening (M6 phillips?) = M6x20 Pan Head Philips Screw, Split Lock Washer, Split Flatwasher, Qty 8 needed for both gussets
  • the upper and lower ambulance latch catches - beveled phillips head - are you asking about the strikers on the floor and hardtop rear channel for the driver's amby door, if so = M5x16 Pan Head Philips Screw with captured Split LW and Flat Washer
  • gas tank cover under pass seat - my truck had a mix of hex head AND hex head WITH a phillips slot both M6. - see the attached pic, which fasteners are you looking for, both shown in the Part List are M6x20 Hex Head bolts.

@davework - thanks!

Yes - I was talking about the upper and lower strikers for the ambulance doors.

For the gas tank cover I'm talking about part 77108 "Protector". There are two bolts on the front edge attaching to the floor in the passenger footwell and two between the tank and the door sill - also attaching to the floor. On my truck the two between the tank and the sill were hex head but with phillip slots as well. The two on the front edge look the same as the bolts that hold the transmission cover down (no phillips slotting).

Thanks again -

Looks like the front ones are 91661-40620, which are M6x20 Hex Bolts with captured split LW, no phillips.

Side ones look to be 93385-16020, which are discontinued, but the part number indicates a M6x20 hex bolt as well, possible that OEM had phillips on those.

Does anyone know the thread pattern on the fj40 windshield knob?
I think my full roll bar setup will prevent me from installing the OEM knobs so I was going to test a "custom fit" knob which could stabilize the windshield when the top is off. Thanks!

M8 x 1.25 (i think)

My compliments and thanks to all who have contributed to this thread.

Can someone please clarify bib hinge bolts, nuts and washers? The spreadsheet indicates two bolts. I'm sure there should be four: two bolts to hold half the hinge to the body, and two more to hold the other half of the hinge to the bib. Fasteners 36 & 37 in the below illustration.

Thanks for your help.

I show the hinge to frame as Qy 2 M8x30 with captured split washer and the hinge to front grill as Qty 2 M8x20 with captured flat washer.

None of the nuts for these are captive, correct?

Anyone have a list of the fasteners that are best bought OEM?

I'm researching now as I'm putting the rig back together, and it seems like there are some pretty good hints in the Coolerman et. al. spreadsheet notes about those fasteners that are "probably" best gotten OEM, but confirmation from all you folks would be beneficial to those of us coming along (much) later.

I have converted my copy of the spreadsheet to a google docs spreadsheet, and would be willing to assist Coolerman in adding this info (including Toyota part numbers) if this becomes a big list to a google docs version.

Converting it to a google doc would make this a lot easier for long term maintenance. (@Coolerman let me know if you think this is worth investigating).

By all means! Make it a Google doc and I will change my link to point to that instead.
OEM part numbers would really add to the value of this data.

@Coolerman Done - I sent you the "Prototype".

All others, please list any fasteners you think need to be OEM, noting part numbers if you can. I'll make note of those and try to have part numbers in the spreadsheet going forward.

This will also help us determine which ones we need to keep up with when doing a restoration vs just throwing them in the general "replate or replace" bucket.

Moving forward, we will attempt to the spreadsheet in Google Docs where anyone can access it, and anyone can create their own copy in google docs, or download as an excel file if they want to.

VV - Check here for some Toyota bolts with photos and part numbers: > here < I'd like to have one of each of the SEMS units so I'd know exactly what size they are.

I order a mess of the 91661-60620 & 91661-60625 SEMS bolts when I reinstalled my roof. Those are the M6 bolts with the over sized washers. These type of bolts are used in quite a few places. Also, I was going thru my bolt piles recently and noticed almost all the OEM bolts I've taken off (M6 & M8) have the captured washers and/or lock washers.
