New to the forum and to 40 series ownership.
Looking for any info y’all can contribute on a window regulator for a 1981 BJ40.

Frame has the split vent window in the front.

Will take the panel off the inside and find out soon but wondered if anyone had experience with this and knew the style regulator needed.
Thanks in advance TLRI.

Welcome to the site and Land Cruiser ownership. It looks like a nice one. The information on this site runs deep and most all subjects have been covered at one time or another. One of the 1st things to do is download a free Factory Service Manual (FSM). Maybe @charliemeyer007 will chime in with a link for ya. You can use the search function here or do an internet search and concentrate on results that reference this site. Asking questions here and posting pics are always welcome and enjoyed.

What is it not doing?

The regulator in my '72 did not work until I removed it, cleaned it up, and re-greased the gears and the track/roller. Now it works perfectly. May be worth a shot, anyway...

Appreciate all the input and the welcome!

I hope to get this opened up in the relatively near term and will certainly post a pic or two. My plan was to look at what I found and search online for the matching part.

Thanks again and look forward to many adventures and projects to come.

If you can't fix it, you might try the classified section, maybe put up a wanted ad. There are a number of good vendors around here too.

Window won’t roll up.
Goes down fine but feels like gears are slipping as I try to roll it up. I can take 2-3 rotations of the crank then lift the glass and it stays at that height. Repeat a couple times and it’s up but if I just turn the crank you can feel the feel the gears slipping and the window doesn’t move.
Without digging into it I didn’t know if there was a way to tighten the assembly or just replace it.

It sounds like you need to take it apart and find out what the problem is. Looking at your pic. It appears to be a later door. I plugged in window regulator searching the 40 section and came up with 28 pages. Of course not all the responses will be helpful.

That or a similar regulator is still available from Toyota. I have a door apart currently waiting for parts for my 77 which has different glass, so I’ve been looking too. If you’re doing the job take it all apart and replace the upper and lower runners and get another 40 years out of it.

Crap. I didn't know that. I put aftermarket ones from CCOT in mine.
I thought they were NLA
This is what I saw when I was looking, mine is different and I went with Kurt's and ordered the handle as well because the TEQ handle splines must be a little different with the aftermarket parts

If it hasn’t been mentioned you will need a 1974 or earlier regulator.

69801-90304, 6990190300 here are part numbers for late doors with a vent window and earlier doors. Regulator are different. Some where I have some aftermarket window regulators for late door. They are not like the early two piece doors. The early ones have a plate that bolts to the face of door skin. Later bolted from the inside. Snap on panel just has hole the window crank handle covered.

His doors appear to be the later style door, but with cozy wings and door cards on the interior.

That's exactly what mine was doing. After a clean and re-grease, it works great.

You may also wish to check the window runs. They can get old and crusty, which prevents the window from sliding smoothly.
