Alternatively, when my buddy put a 2F valve cover on his ‘73 he used 1/2” copper pipe and sweat-fitted elbows at both ends. The OD of the elbows were a match for the valve cover and air cleaner, and he polished and clearcoated all the copper. :bling:

Mine is too, 18mm for both. Of course the other issue is Mr. T didn't design the lid so the air cleaner port points at the valve cover port. (or maybe he did and my valve cover is "different". :) ) So the hose has a kink in it.

I'll get after it today with a 5/8" hose and see if it fits.

See Mark, this is an idea I can get behind. Using elbows would resolve the "angle of attack" issue. :) Plus the bling factor...

Well, damn. I am going to add to my checks "Measure twice and post once". 5/8" heater hose fits well. I'll bend it up and use the heat gun to fix it. Thanks!

Can we talk about Prop 65? This warning is on EVERYTHING. (Because everything can kill you.) So it's a pretty useless law... But this seemed particularly funny because I can think of only one application that would cause "Reproductive Harm" and I ain't gonna do that. :D

Today is Radiator Day (it's also .308 day...maybe both. :)) Yesterday was 6.5 CM day...

Before I dive in, I have a question about the coolant pipe location and orientation. There is a lip on the cover that prevents me from installing it in the "up" orientation I have seen in other's photos.

If I install it "down" it might fit, but will probably have to remove a little material from the top of each bracket:

I like that this rail will clean up the engine bay a bit, though it does add two connections and locations for potential leaks.
Is there a "right way" to install it (the engine is a '78) or should I forget it and just move on?
 
Tabs were in the “up” position on my 76 (your 1st pic). Pic of the 76 for a visual. But, note the flanges on my “brass pipe” are squared off where yours are rounded. Not sure if the configuration changed. I do have a spare side cover from an earlier model that has small concave areas on the cover located where the pipe would mount. I’ll snap a pic of it tomorrow if you want one. Someone with a doctorate in side cover/water pipe-ology will probably chime in before then.

@Pighead sent me this pic. You can see the different configurations on the mounting flanges..looks like you need one similar to the one at the right hand side of the photo.

This might work, I'll try a longer bolt and a stack of washers.

I picked up the spacer material and will attack that tomorrow. Also got a mailer from @Coolerman with some help for my wireing harness to acomodate my new oil sender location and (while I was at it) improved distributor wiring.

Radiator in and filled with distilled water for a few days of shake down.

@Coolerman components installed and (of course) fit perfectly. Thank You!

Hoping to get a few miles on the truck this week shaking out any last bugs, leaks, etc.

I need to address the distributor orientation, but I think that's about it.

Crazy this was two months ago.

There are definitely spacers between the tube and the side cover Matthew. Iirc, they’re about 3/8” thick. I have found that a standard JIS 10mm nut is about the same width…for a fraction of the cost.😉

I am going to try this. Cut a 6mm bolt and add nuts to make it a stud. Add another washer and nut to hold the rail in place.

Use it…But, I have exclusive writing credits in the Broadway play and I get a “bit part” as the reclusive Wino in the made for TV adaptation..

Took her out for a bit of sunshine. I still have a small oil leak at the front edge of the oil pan I am trying to find. The problem is it blows oil up the driver's side of the engine and under the air cleaner.

Everything else is running great. Significantly more pep and power in 3rd, no hesitation climbing hills. Going to try and put a few hundred on it by the end of the weekend and then check compression.

Past the first 100 miles!
