DNP - Ok I tried again on the PM..I guess it's now called a "conversation"? I'm a bit slow with this interweb thing-a-ma-bob.

I'm looking at some of early pictorial installs and can't believe the form fitting smooth fit of the new carpet. What's the secret to remove all the packing/shipping creases and folds after unpacking. I might have missed the post, but a step by step tutorial could answer a number of installation questions. I reckon I could just call the manufacturer or maybe the carpet sets come with an installation guide?

This may sound a little too simplistic, but it actually is somewhat self-explanatory once you get started. The manufacturer purposely leaves the sides of the carpet a little long (actually, I guess it's wide) so it can be cut to fit underneath the scuff plates and side panels, etc. As for the wrinkles and creases from shipping, you can usually get them out by putting the carpet in the sun for a short period of time (under side up) or you can use a heat gun, provided you are very careful about concentrating the heat. The carpet is made from nylon, after all. There are several ways to locate and pierce the carpet for the holes that must be put in it (seat bolts, rear heater, scuff plate screws, etc), and some of those were mentioned in this thread. Making the larger holes for things like the shifters is much easier.

The manufacturer does not have an installation video that I have been able to find; however, there are several generic automotive carpet installation instruction videos on YouTube, and a couple of them I have watched even use this brand of carpet.

From having done this project on other cars in the past, I can tell you that it is not difficult at all, being that the carpet is molded. That helps you get it in the right place to begin with, and it's a matter of making bolt holes and securing it from there. However, like most other restoration jobs, in order to be careful and make sure everything is tight and secure, it take some time.

Arrived today! Will post some before and after pics - but this project is not hot on the list...other things to do first, but soon hopefully.

So awesome. I didn't plan to ever need/want carpet. But kinda do now especially for that kind of quality and price. PM sent!

The parking brake and the center console also trade places. The shifter holes appear to be in the same places but I can't be certain.

Is there any difference on an RHD model other than which side they sew the reinforcement pad? Would love to put new carpet in my HJ61…

You sure don’t need an answer from me after CDan has entered the conversation. You have the final answer right there! :D

Thanks Dan. I would have had NO idea!

I just looked at our HJ60 and HJ61s, two of the latter. The front seat mounting geography is WAY different than our US market 84 FJ60. Based on that it's a no-go.

That is unless it is like an FJ62 and you have that pattern ready. We do not have a 62 to look at right now.

I have in stock (all for an "early-floor" FJ60, which is a truck made from 1981 to 10/1985):

(a) a set of new, in-the-box brown carpet,
(b) a set of new, in-the-box brown passenger mats, and
(c) a new, in-the-box brown cargo mat

If anyone is ready for any of these, please let me know, and I'll get you a total shipped price.

Thanks,
David

Sending PM re: Brown passenger mats and cargo mat

@slomoe yes (I think) the carpeted wheel arch is sufficiently large enough to tuck behind side panel (just a little bit) and the plastic cover thingy just snaps over any overhang. Not sure how post 85 wagons differ in that regard though.
