I think he was being sincere, it is a job well done! I think professional was in quotes because you're not a professional but you turned out work as good as the guys that are. This is a great solution. I do have the Waggoner tailgate but if I didn't this would make me consider going this route. In my tailgate I keep a wool blanket, jumper cables, crow bar, roll of gorilla and electrical tape, mechanix gloves, qt motor oil and a qt transmission fluid, and 2 or 3 ratchet straps.

Thanks, I think....can't tell if your being sarcastic because professional was in quotes...but I will choose to be optimist and take it as a compliment.
And yes, cost was $96 plus some bolts.
Don't know about the wiring being a fire hazard, I hope not, but I did put some of @scottryana high desire/density foam underneath it to try and keep it in place/not have stuff shift over in to it.

Take it as a compliment - if the rest of us are honest we've all done a booty fab on something we're not proud to show. You did a solid install.

OK, mebbe Joey hasn't done a booty install - but he's the exception. It's why he's got his own line of stuff. And special meds. :hillbilly:

Your man really seems to be taking off with this whole Land Cruiser thing huh? :princess:
That's funny you should mention that....last month he started to drive it to work once a week, claiming he had to drive it to feel out how the new suspension "he mostly installed" was handling. Now he is driving it a few times a week to work (presumably making more suspension test notes)! Its never been my DD, but it sure seems like he is starting to think it is his DD! Also, I used to have to "persuade" him to help me with fixes/PM on my Land Cruiser....and now a days, he says things like, "what are we doing on OUR Land Cruiser this weekend"! I am pretty sure he is trying to swipe my LC from me, but I love that he is really getting into them and seeing how awesome they are....I think he is hooked now!

Yeah, I stood on them and no flex at all. They are boat deck hatches that were designed to be walked on. I don't know what there max weight capacity is, but they feel real strong/solid to me.

That's good news. Did the middle of the tailgate between the two hatches feel weakened in any way? To get into the back of my LX, I kind of hop up and land on my knee right in the middle of the tailgate.

The knee in the middle of the tailgate was my main reason for doing the Wagon gear mod in the first place. Needed to get it back to square. Jen, great job on the portal doors!

A $100 and some hours with the grinder and possibly the rivnut gun is actually pretty cheap for the extra storage space this would allow. This would allow me to move the majority of my recovery gear from a duffle behind the seat. BTW @Aloha Jen thank you for posting a link to the part you used, makes the ordering super easy for me. This might be my after xmas present to myself. Super clean interior on that 80 series, wish my two looked like that.

I also have the Wagongear lid and would definitely do this if I didn't. I really like the fact that the carpet is kept. That'sone thing I miss. It's no fun hopping up on your knee with the Wagon gear tail gate.....

Cheers,
Salue

I don't think it feels weakened at all after the install. We did not cut into the two middle support brackets that run top to bottom, which seem like they provide quite a bit of support for the middle section. I saw another post about someone who cut that support bracket to fit a bigger hatch, and I think I remember reading that he felt it weakened the middle section. Mine feels the same as before they were installed. I will see if I can get my husbands 280 pound Samoan friend to come over and stand on it, might make for some interesting photos!

successful brainwashing of your whole family is nearly complete

but on topic, this is actually a really good idea and i'm thinking about doing something similar now

thanks

We take your word for it. You don't need to have your husbands 280 lb Samoan friend stand on it. I think that is overkill and unnecessary.

But if you and one of your friends wanted to pose on it together I think that would be a good idea.

This is fantastic. I've been pining over the wagongear lid and the cool storage it provides but I have so many other projects that take precedence at that pricepoint that I'm afraid I'd never get to it. Thank you for this sweet idea; I'm going to look into something similar using your idea.

Yeah.....maybe recreate something like this Land Cruiser photo? Seemed appropriate for all the gun geeks that hijacked my thread earlier!

The AKs seem more suited to a 40 or 60 than a 200.

Yes, they all power on/off at once, are dimmible with 4 different light intensities, and timers can even be set to auto off. They are really cool lights.

Nice project!
fyi - few years ago, I installed some similar lights from Costco in my kitchen for accent/emergency lighting, but got tired of having to constantly replace the batteries - even when not really turning the lights "on". I think I went through 3 sets of batteries in a year - and really only turned them on to test the batteries. Mine look different then yours, so hopefully they improved on that.

I do have some normal (non remote control) stick up lights in my 80 that don't seem to have a parasitic drain...

Lucky Bastard! !!!

Gets a complimentary 80 with a beautiful accessory! !!!

I fully condone it!

Great job Jen. I'm thinking bout biting you......

Like I mean copying.......
