High desire foam? Is that what makes you such a hit on mud?

The space in between the hatches is very shallow, but I put a 2"x6" piece high desire foam in between the two support bars and just below the latch mechanism all the way to the bottom, so stuff can't really migrate from one side to the other or interfere with the latch. Plus, the hatch sits right above the best usable space, so very easy access to it.

Kevin is my role model for product development. He thinks/engineers the right way. Nothing else has come close. I hope he gets the opportunity to support the cruiser community in full effect again.

me too!

Are you able to put any weight on them? Like standing on it?
Yeah, I stood on them and no flex at all. They are boat deck hatches that were designed to be walked on. I don't know what there max weight capacity is, but they feel real strong/solid to me.

but then, you only weigh 1/2 of what a typical mud member weighs! so not a true test of strength!! how many times are you actually going to stand on it though. I have stepped on my tailgate maybe 2-3 times.

Most of the time i use it as a cooking surface than anything else.

Looks like a good project for mine. I was thinking more along the line of tearing out the carpet and installing some kind of hardened material over the length of the tailgate so it can be used more like a work-bench, though. Still, it should be stupid easy to do.
UHMWPE my friend. It's not just for body lift pucks and cutting boards these days....its used to make positively bouyant level IIIA body armor too. That's right. Floating body armor that can withstand multiple rounds from a .308

Do you think a carbine length rifle in a softcase could be maneuvered through one of those hatches?
