Im missing the grille for my Bib / Bezel so am trying to source one. Cruiserparts.net advertises that they keep these in stock, but I also was considering buying a piece of this and doing custom grill. I know its kind of Icon'ish but kind of cool...

That will not look right.Do her justice and get some OEM looking stuff. Around here we get the same stuff in many of our indoor braai(barbeque)grids ?

Thanks guys! I was looking for honest feedbaack and you've given it to me.

I will get the OEM one and call it a day. Probably cost less anyway.

Anybody fairly local got one for sale? If so shoot me a PM.

Part Identification Help?

I believe it's a set screw for alternator or smog pump. Anyone?

Dunno what it is.

But I know what it is not:
An OEM fastener from an FJ40.

I think the stock position on the ones that came with one were on the "outside," but wherever you can see it better and works for you. I can't remember what size tires you'll be running. I've got 33s with 3.77s with the 4-speed. On steep grades where I can't carry 4rth, it's very reassuring to have a tach to know how fast the engine is spinning in 3rd. Keep up the good work!

Your dash, your decision on whether or not to cut. You're the one who has to fix it. And its nothing to weld it shut and spray the dash. Go on the left where the factory put them.

So just as an update and keep this thread going.

I lost my job of 19 yrs in a Corporate downsizing (thanks Obamacare!).
One would think this means I have all sorts of time but in reality I've been busier than hell trying to figure out what I'm going to do next. I decided to start my own business and join the self-employed.

I have been working on getting my manifolds back on my 2F. I bought one of FJ40Jim's block off plates and then discovered the threads were stripped on studs. I naively tried to remove and ended up shearing them off.

So then I drilled a small hole and inserted an easy out and tried to back them out. BANG! the easy out broke off in the ex manifold,

Then I tried to loosen the 30 yr old bolt with heat and cold, welded a bolt to the stud with no success.

I was about to give up for good and took it by a machine shop. These guys were super and had an incredible shop and tools. They were able to drill out the broken off bolt, bore out to 3/8" and then tap it. The best part...they didn't charge me a dime!

Things are looking up!

Props to CGS Machine & Tool in Bowling Green, KY !!!

Sorry about the job-loss, but congrats on joining the self employed crowd! Best of luck to you and you new endeavor.

This build is amazing - read every page....lets see some more progress :)

It's inspired me enough to hit the garage this weekend and wrench on mine.

broth

I don't have any exciting pics to share, but some small progress has been made.

I'm having some trouble with the 2 center studs on the manifold. I removed the old studs as the ends were mangled and can't get the replacement studs started. In the process I'm mangling the new studs!

I need to buy a new M12 x 1.25 tap to clear any possible debris from head, and two more new studs. Very aggrevating.

Thinking of throwing the studs in the freezer overnight and heating the head with a small handheld torch???

I did replace hardware on tailgate with Stainless Buttonhead bolts. Looks good and bought enough M6 and M8 bolts to go around the truck.

That's all to report for now.

Try finding a cap for the stud or just make one by welding a washer on top of a nut. Then you should be able to use a wrench to thread it into the head. Be careful! You saw what I had to do. Or spring for the tap and chase out the threads. Odds are they need it anyways. That's probably how the last studs got mangled from the previous owner. I bet they are slightly cross threaded.

Can I reuse a Felpro header gasket if it appears to look "good"?

I had installed it with headers before turning around and disassembly of entire motor. Never even ran the motor after initial install.

Should be fine if it's never been run. Are you going to use one or two gaskets? I've gotten several recommendations for two since it helps compensate for heterogeneity in the mating surface.
