Well, proceeded tearing down the hatch and rear doors today. Jackpot on finding rust! See below...

Who doesn't love rear hatch doors that sound like maracas!? Also, I ground down what I rust I could and applied rustmort. I see rust I can't reach around the pins on the hinges. Should I soak the whole hinges in Evaporust? Any experience on this? I also feel I will be buying a welder soon and learning how to do body work. Still going deeper down the rabbit hole. Brown santa is here a few days a week now. Each box costing a minimum of a Benjamin. I included some before and after a of grinding the rust off.

I'm also considering pouring a handsome amount of rustmort into my rear hatches and giving them more shaking than an hour with Richard Simmons. Thoughts? Keep in mind I don't want the jalopy to melt and disappear!

the window rubber rests on your hood were in the wrong direction - just saying'

Nice looking cruiser your doing a good job fixing it up

not a sir by any means :p :flipoff2: :flamingo:

the rubber bumpers are supposed to cushion the window when you fold it down - so you want to have the leveled step touch the glass; but that only works if the elevated step is oriented towards the firewall, not as you found it

this is how they are supposed to look on a 40 that has the top-mounted windshield wiper motor:

and after the rear was painted

Ah, I see what you're saying. The PO did a decent job fixing a bunch of stuff but every now and again you come across things like this.

I'm trying to use and refurbish as many OEM parts as possible from the vehicle. These still technically work buuuut they are very rusty and tattered...also, when I turn on my lights pretty decent draw on the system. When I turn on a blinker (left or right) my ampmeter dips big time with each flash. I can't wait to switch to LED lights!

the housing grounds the lights, so the contact better be metal-on-metal, not rust-on-rust or paint-on-rust or rust-on-paint
