congrats on the trailer. DOes it come with it's own brakes? How hard is it to stop it and how high are your EGTs getting?

Thanks!

The M101A3 has surge brakes, so the harder the trailer presses into the hitch, the more pressure is applied to the trailer's brakes.

My EGTs on the highway would be at 1200* constantly in 5th gear while towing this trailer. In 4th at 60-65, EGTs were between 1000* and 1100* as long as I wasn't accelerating.

That setup is tiiiiiiiiits. I want one bad

Awesome setup!

QUOTE=GLTHFJ60;8867720]Turbo has been shipped back, waiting for a refund now. New tire has been installed and Moonshine is fully operational again.

Went and picked up a BEAUTIFUL M101A3 this weekend!! I'm in the final stages of buying a house on .72 acres, so this trailer will be awesome not only for moving, but also for cleaning everything up on the property.

This trailer weighs 1300# empty but surprisingly I couldn't feel it that much behind Moonshine. EGTs were too high at highway speed though, so I was limited to 65mph for the tow home. Definitely time to put in an intercooler. I'll get started on that project after we get into this new house.

It fits in my little 1 car garage, but I had to put most of what was in the garage in the trailer to make it work  I guess packing has started!!

Over the past couple of weeks, Moonshine has developed a leak at the DS rear hub, which has coated the underside and back of the truck in a fine mist of gear oil. I got in to repair it last night and found that the bearings were SUPER loose. Looks like I got in right in the nick of time as there was zero spindle damage.

I've also got a bad case of death wobble developing and have found the DS front bearing is loose as well, so that'll get fixed tonight.

In other news, I've bought a set of 6 to 8 lug adapters from Mike and they're en route. It'll be sweet to get the same wheels in front and in the rear :D

Fixed.

Since our trucks are pretty similar it only make sense to share accessories.

Good catch on your bearings.

Yes sir, absolutely. Thanks again! I trust that PayPal went through without issue?

What kind of leafs and axle are you running in the rear?

What kind of leafs and axle are you running in the rear?

I'm running stock FJ62 leafs in the back IIRC. The axle is a 14 Bolt (AAM 10.5) axle out of a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD with the 6.0liter gas and an automatic.

The 14 bolt is serious beef.

Rear seal leak

Make sure the breather fitting and tube are not clogged on the rear diff. I chased a leaky rear seal for a long time until I checked the breather fitting. It was so filthy I had to drill out the clog.

Keep up the good work!

BUMP for a New Years update !

When I actually get some stuff done I'll post up an update :D I do have some things coming down the pipe though.

It was a busy fall and it's turning out to be a busy winter!

Ok, so some cool stuff has been happening.

- Got engaged 10/2/13 (can't remember if I posted that or not)
- Bought a house 11/12/13
- Moved in and started to set up the house through November, had a bunch of guests through November and December
- Went up to NY for XMas
- Spent the majority of January thus far entertaining and setting up the house

As for Moonshine:
- Got her LEGALLY registered and inspected as a DIESEL vehicle in NC (that was a big victory)
- bought two new turbos
- bought a Racor 210 fuel filter
- bought a big toolbox
- bought some cordless power tools
- built a new workbench
- started using biodiesel (b20) exclusively
- developed a horrendous alternator whine to compliment my voltage flutter
- replaced the alternator, so the whine is gone, but the flutter is still there
- did an oil change with a bypass oil filter
- BOUGHT A WELDER

I think that's it!

The turbos I bought are a HX35w and (another) HX30w. The HX30w I ordered from a guy in Norway, who gets them from Holset brand new for ridiculously good prices. It's got a 44mm inducer on the compressor and a 6cm2, wastegated turbine housing. The plan is to install the HX30w and turn up the fuel some more, then when I feel the need for more power, I'll do twins with the HX30w and the HX35.

As for the voltage flutter, take a look at this post. This is where I need to go with my troubleshooting:

Is your regulator external?

If your ground strap to the engine block, or battery to frame is bad, or the alternator mounting points are dirty or rusty (internal regulator) you may be getting a bad reference voltage for your regulator. If the reference voltage fluctuates, the regulator will kick the alternator in and out...

I've got an external VR and used this guide to wire it up:

http://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen-ram-tech/303000-diy-external-voltage-regulator-conversion.html

As for grounds, I've got one ground going from the head of the motor to the firewall, and one from the engine mount to the battery. I've also got a ground wire going from the alternator to the mounting bolt of the VR and the VR is bolted to the inner fender.

Think I need to move grounds around or just clean what I've got?

Here are some pictures.

Here's the process for changing your truck's registration to diesel in North Carolina.

1. Do the conversion and make it drivable.
2. Drive the truck to the closest NC DOT License and Theft office
3. Tell them what you've done and get them to fill out the LT-270 form, as pictured below.

4. Once that's done and it looks similar to my form, go to the DMV Registration office (I went to the Raleigh head office) and tell them you want your registration fuel type changed. Hand over the form along with your current registration, and you'll get your new diesel registration back. (Fuel type is D for Diesel instead of G for Gasoline)

5. After that's done, simply go get it inspected and tell them that it's now a diesel motor. Give them the motor's information and the inspection form will print out like this, exempting you from the emissions portion of the safety inspection.

AND YOU'RE DONE!! It took me too long to figure that all out, but now that I know what the steps are, it's pretty easy to do.

Johnny,
Good info, I don't think there's anything we need to change in Texas. If there is no one has caught me yet. I just told the safety inspector it's a diesel engine now which exempts it from testing the engine for excessive pollution. My registration still comes in like normal.

PS you just motivated me into reorganizing my garage.

PPS,

Just read your recent post completely, I feel like a douche for not congratulating you first on your engagement and your new house.
