Probably not absolutely necessary if you have a lift. But you'd have to go slow. My truck is very tall so I was not making contact where others were.

Without measuring, I can tell you the lowest point is at the bottom of the rear strut mounts.

I'll have to take measurements there and below the 3rd member.
 
I think he's asking about the lowest point in the break over zone between front and rear wheels.

@Tapage , 3rd member is 9.75"
Beak over point (if counting rear lower arm mounts) is 15"
Break over (from bottom of transfer case) is 16"
