Repainted my wheels. Took off the worn PlastiDip and went with a basecoat of Duplicolor Semi Gloss Black Engine Enamel followed by 3 topcoats of Duplicolor Bronze Wheel Enamel. Looks much better than before! $12 in paint. I'm happy.

Where'd the 37's go? That your spare?

Wheels look awesome BTW.

Yeah, that's my spare. @ntsaint , that's just my taillight you are seeing.

Though some red TRD Pro calipers would sure be some kind of purdy...

Ok, looks like I "may" have found a buyer for my Trail Grapplers. So It'll be time to make some decisions on which direction I take with the new tires.

So here's where I am at:

As you know, Chris let me borrow a set of used Goodyear MTRs in 37/12.5/17. They are a bit worn, so keep that in mind. Now, the MTRs rub my frame and frame mount at 4/5 turns. This is a bit annoying, but only noticed when I am turning into a parking space. Other than that, no rubbing. Now, what I originally had said I wanted to do, was to buy a set of Toyo Open Country R/Ts in 37/12.5/R17, but I nixed the idea when I found that the MTRs rubbed as much as they did. But I also remember someone saying that the Toyos run pretty thin to size. I believe it was @Bomar who said this. Was it you, John? My next question is, is how to Goodyear MTRs generally run according to size? A bit wider? I ask, because if the R/Ts are going to be skinnier than the MTRs, they are going to rub considerably less, and therefore may actually still be an option for me. Id love it if they were. On the other hand, if the Goodyears and Toyos are about the same width, then it wont help me to switch.

@wct49 , you may know the answer too.

Otherwise, I'll at least be switching to a new set of Open County R/Ts in 35/12.5/17

In the tall and skinny world there is always the 38.5x11.00 Bogger

Yeah, but that's going to hit the body mount bracket even more. Wish I could find a 37/11/17

Or maybe a 36/12.5/17

It was time to get a new battery. My old battery was starting to die on me. I could tell that it was going out because I'd leave my lights on for a few minutes and I would have trouble starting the truck afterwards.

So, instead of just buying a new battery, I decided to upgrade to a Group 31. I went with Interstate's new 31 (recommended by Slee) and Slee's new Group 31 primary battery upgrade kit. Installation was straightforward and took about 40 minutes. All that was needed were a few ratchets, and a step drill.

@Bomar , i like the square look, but is square a bad thing in my case? I did a but of research, and open countrys appear to run smaller than advertised, which is a good thing.

Look what @wct49 got for me today!

So @wct49 scored me a used Warn M12000 this week. Thanks man! I picked it up today, and this is what it looked like:

I got it home, I hooked it up to my battery, and it worked great. Next, I started taking it apart. Nothing big, just inspecting the inside of the drum and brake. I got my angle grinder with lapping wheel and got all of the surface rust off of the drum. I then gave it a heavy coat of high temperature engine enamel.

The raw aluminum shafts that span across the drum were pretty chewed up, so I removed them and sanded out the rough spots. I then hit them with some silver engine enamel.

I then bought some new Grade 8 mounting bolts and replaced the rusted hardware with some stainless steel hardware.

I painted these rusted bolts with black enamel, but I will buy some stainless replacements tomorrow morning.

I'll continue to get it fixed up before I install it.

More stainless steel hardware. These socket head 1/4-20x3 weren't easy to find in town.

I also took apart the planetary gears today and inspected them. They were in extremely good shape; no rust, and plenty of grease.

Thanks, man. I think I'm going to paint the entire winch black tomorrow. The paint itself is in ok shape, but it is faded and there is a lot of rust stains from the old hardware. Plus, I already have the paint, so it'll not cost a dime to do so. I think semi matte black paint with stainless hardware will look sweet. I may order some new decals/stickers from Warn to top it off.
