what year is it and what are you wanting to do to it?
1976 and it needs a restoration brought over the finish line. Finish wiring in engine bay, get it running, brakes gone through, some interior installed, glass installed all around.

Uh....what! :smokin:
Yep. Wanted to put it on a boat to Columbia. I mean, I get it, I don't think it's his business model to restore vehicles in the US. He'll toss some parts on your truck, install upgrades, that sort of thing in the US. Anything else goes to Columbia. This truck is way too nice to deal with those shenanigans. Another mud member found it out west with amazing provenance, spent about four years painstakingly restoring it, and ran out of steam. The only option is to bring it over the finish line with someone who knows what they're doing and will do this guy's hard work justice.

Hi local cruiser dudes,

I'm trying to find someone to complete some work on a project 40 I picked up earlier this year. Everyone seems pretty packed and unwilling to take on the project. OTRAMM's not working on 40s anymore, Iron Pig is swamped, the guy in Hagerstown wants to send it to Columbia (NOPE). Any other cruiser specialists in the general area I'm missing? Thanks in advance!

@matzell might be able to help if it doesn't need too much

I would steer clear of him for anything. If you are rewiring it for the engine harness just pull the entire harness out and go with a painless wiring harness. For a stock 76 you need all of 6 circuits.

Having done a frame-off resto-mod, what you have described is the most tedious part of the rebuild. Wiring in the engine bay is easy, under the dash is not so easy. Paying someone to do the wiring harness could be very, very expensive due to the number of hours needed to do it right. Wiring harness build and install will take multiple weeks. Coolerman had it down to a science with his layout/build table all pre-marked and measured for different model years. Unfortunately, I don't think he is in that business any longer. The Painless wiring harness is anything but...it's a GM design that works on FJ40's. You will also have to buy extra wire (not all parts of all circuits are included in the kit). There are no connectors in the Painless kit, just the fuse block and marked wire. I got all my connectors from Vintage Connectors so they were compatible with the OEM connectors. My wiring harness ('71) required a lot of consulting with Professor Morthimer to modify.

Glass install is easy with the exception of the windshield. That takes at least two sets of hands and preferably one set of hands already has some experience. Glass can be done in a day or less. The 5 pieces of hardtop glass and door windows can be done faster than the windshield in my experience. Door seals also go faster with two sets of hands.

Interior is easy, it's an FJ40 so there's not much there. If you have what you need and the seats are already rebuilt (new foam and covers), interior can be fully installed in two evenings.

PS - The biggest problem with doing this all yourself, is wiping the big, stupid grin off your face whenever you climb into the driver's seat.

I hope this is the correct forum. My FJZ80 failed the Virginia safety inspection yesterday due to a frayed driver seat belt. What are the options to replace that (just the belt, the entire assembly, etc.)?

I've heard from people who are happy with the work done by Seatbelt Planet, online. A tip is to have them choose the closest color to your belt when they receive it because it just might not be the one you ordered. Not sure if any local companies offer rewebbing.

That reminds me that I need to replace one of mine!

Search on car-part.com
Might find a decent one. Check LX model also.
Do you need a core for a mail-away reweb?

Also, unless your belt was totally fooked, I'd write that inspection station off your list for future use.

I tend to watch a lot of TV... MotorTrendTV📺

I do have familiarity with one out of the 3 ..

Iron Pig down in Fredericksburg has my 76 now doing something similar. I bought a truck a few years ago that needed a lot of random fixes including some electrical issues, adding power steering, reworking a few things. They have been slowly working through them all and hopefully will be done soon. No complaints and I do get regular updates from Lance and he is good about answering questions and walking through options. I know they are busy so depending on your timeline maybe you could get in the que. I know when I get done with this round I will start planning for more work down the road at some point.

Have the annoying but common peeling of the leather issue on my 2016 200's steering wheel which is driving me crazy and looking for a local upholsterer to redo the leather, hopefully cheaper than the $1k it would be to replace the steering wheel. Anyone have a recommendation? Am located in south alexandria.

I have no interest in this defender other than to ask if this asking price is inline with what they go for.

Seems on the higher end, especially since (based on the photos) it's not even clear if that 110 is physically in the US

Any recommendations for a relatively affordable local place that carries paint pens? Already went through one pen and still need a bit more, but also don't want to pay more than like $40. Would rather not order on Amazon and wait 2 weeks for delivery...

I wanna say I remember the Toyota dealer in Manassas always had a good selection of them in the parts dept. Might be worth a phone call.
