Anyone got a recommendation for a roofer, preferably one who still works in copper flashing? I need to replace the flashing around my chimney to stop a leak. I'm guessing most of the bigger roofing companies around here aren't going to want to do a small job like this.
Alexandria Roofing has a copper specialist but big $,$$$ costs. You get what you pay for though.

Backed into a neighbor's car and busted the bumper and one blind spot monitor on my 2016 lc. Can anyone recommend a reliable body shop in the Alexandria-ish area to do the work?

Did I miss the memo about gear oil prices going up? I just went to go get some GL-4 75-90 gear oil for my cruiser and it's 70 bucks a gallon if you can find it.

No s***, man. ATF, too. I'm now REALLY happy I scored 6 1-gallon jugs of gear oil last year when a local Pep Boys closed down. Got there too late for the 5-gal buckets.

Wow glad I didn’t wait to do my Tundra fluids! I got 5 gallons of synthetic gear oil in July for $55.

I was impressed with this shop earlier in the year when they did some work for me:

To follow up- I went to this place for an estimate a couple weeks ago. They put the watch on a meter and found it within tolerance, and advised me not to have it serviced yet. They did not charge for the assessment. I respect that and will return to this shop when it has fallen out of tolerance.

Does anyone know a place to get ethanol free gas in the Alexandria/Springfield/Fairfax area?

Closest place I can find is in Warrenton…

Quick search through OL'Bob Google shows this place. Belle Haven, Exxon at 1800 Belle View Blvd, Alexandria, VA 22307, that sells ethanol-free gas. It is 93 octane. +17037652500

Then there is this site

You use Google AI to come up with that? :flipoff2: Might be a dubious claim. Anyone in that area want to do a drive by?

Thanks! I’ve searched the pure-gas website before and it doesn’t show anything in the local area. Might have to do some recon down to Belle Haven, but based on that Reddit thread it sounds like it’s actually 10% ethanol.

Coming from West Coast it blows my mind how hard it is to find real gas here…

I usually go to the Trenis Hardware BP station for my non ethanol and off road diesel. On 28 in Catlett. Unfortunately they only have 87 octane and my new boat requires 93.

So basically you can't buy good gas in counties or cities that have emissions.

Wawa in Warrenton has 89 octane for $4/gal. Exxon in Marshall has 87 for right around $4/gal as well.

Anyone had good luck with local dealers for service lately? The GRC is coming up on its 6 month oil change and I'd like to make sure the experience isn't unpleasant. The first 3 years of oil changes was included in the price of the car so I plan to take advantage of that.

DO NOT GO TO Jim Coleman Toyota in Maryland.

Some background - I'm in Rockville, and we have a 2017 Toyota '86' (BRZ/FRS). A friend in the 86 club had a friend who had a new GR Corolla. Jim Coleman Toyota left the oil cap off during an oil change, blowing up the motor at just over 6,000 miles. This was this past fall.

Now, Jim Coleman did the owner right and gave them a new GR Corolla of equal or better specification/trim, and with some warranty or free servicing or the like to sweeten the deal.

But Jim Coleman has turned around that original GR Corolla and listed it for sale, with no mention of a new engine. And they've listed for a price that only makes sense for a GRC with a factory engine. You can see it here: Jim Coleman Listing. The VIN is JTNABAAE1PA004184. The ad mentions a 'clean Carfax,' which I guess is true since they didn't report the engine replacement. They did give it a Toyota Certified 7yr/100k mile powertrain warranty. It feels like they're doing their best to not disclose they replaced the engine. I saw it in the showroom, and when I asked why the original owner sold it, a salesman told me 'They couldn't drive it,' in a way where I could tell he made that excuse up on the spot (I already knew why).

The only 'service' we've had done there is a MD state inspection for the 86, which went well. They washed it for free (nice courtesy) but then didn't dry it, leaving water spots everywhere. Does it really matter? No, but that doesn't give me great confidence on how much they care about customer vehicles.

Since I live <15 minutes away, I've been in a handful of times for parts. Their parts counter is frustratingly slow moving, especially if you need the part right then.

TLDR: Don't bring a GRC to Jim Coleman - they blew up a GR Corolla during an oil change. They made things 100% right for the owner, but are trying to pawn off the blown-up-and-fixed GRC to some unsuspecting buyer.

Edit: I have since found out they left the DRAIN PLUG off. Not the oil cap. The dealer actually forgot the oil plug. No idea how that works, but still. Wow.

I wasn't able to sync up with Paul so I just took the random service writer they gave me after scheduling service on their website. I had to argue with him the that the maintenance interval was 5,000 miles OR 6 months. Dude tried to tell me it was only a "maintenance" at that interval and all they'd do was rotate the tires. I had to pull out the owners manual and show him, still didn't believe me. I told him we needed to talk to the service manager. The service manager wouldn't look at the manual but decided to look up the vehicle on Toyota's system. Finally at that point he agreed, apologized and they took my car back. So effing frustrating. It's almost not worth the hassle to get my 6 included oil changes.
