Before we took it to alignment we re-keyed the gas cap locks to fit my ignition key. Couldn't quite figure out which lock set I needed....so I only bought the set for the doors and ignition. Had a few extra tumblers which we used for making mine work.

So, in a conversation with a local "restoration" shop the question of "keyed alike" sets came up. The boss says "That's easy, you just put the same key in each tumbler and run a die grinder over the pins so they're all level."

I was like "WTF? Are you serious?":oops:  :slap: :bang:

Good to see there are still people who take the time to do a job right.

I re keyed my 79, the kit came with ignition barrel, door locks, glove box lock, two fuel caps with locks, 3 keys and the immobiliser ECU, Mr T in the UK wasn't interested so I got it from a dealer in Sydney who kindly sent it by courier.

That's really cool. How does that immobilizer work.....do you have a key fob? Or is it a proximity sensor.....maybe there is a chip in the key? My new truck has power locks and it had a key fob to lock/unlock(from the donor 76 series).....so of course it had a control box. Can't remember if it was an immobilizer or not.

I re-keyed my first truck and that was easy....this truck was more complicated because of the new dash maybe. I had all the locks from the donor 76 series but none of them fit the 79 as I recall. A tad more complicated for some reason.

It's a transponder in the key, and a coil goes around the ignition barrel to detect the key. I don't have a fob, no central locking or anything on my truck.

Wow. Interesting. I wonder what markets that was for. You had the wiring in the harness obviously. Maybe an Aussie thing?

Yeh my truck is from Aus originally, it's the Workmate spec so comes with vinyl floor, vinyl seats, manual windows, manual door locks etc. It does have factory A/C though, and obviously the engine immobiliser. I figured the dealers in Aus would know more about these trucks so asked the question.

I'm sure with VIN they could figure out what you needed pretty easily.

This is our built in security system.....

Every 79 Series needs security. :)

It has basically the same lines as the 79 Series. They would probably perform very similar in a wind tunnel.

The 79 can be 'converted' for better aero in the wind tunnel.

Apparently someone had some time on their hands.....maybe the only steel wheel that has ever received ceramic coating. Proud of that......but not proud of that. 🤔

Testing out a different type of stance....setting up the rear end....Dobinsons MRR shocks and springs inbound. Need to drop the bump stops down a couple inches too.
