Looks like the embargo is lifted, like 15 videos posted in the past couple hours for GX550 reviews.

I also saw new Land Cruiser ads of the 250 from the Toyota account yesterday on Instagram.

Driving impressions were lifted this morning - see image.

Were they pre-production units still? Still pre-production models.

I'm assuming Kurt's entire video was entirely scripted and blessed by Toyota marketing.
yup like all the others, he just didn't need to keep pulling out the script.

...If I hear one more YTer talk about the "sculpted and chiseled body lines" on the GX550/LC250...
I had chiseled body lines when I was in the Army in the 80's. I now have money and a body more like the GX460. I gotta get my style back...;) GX550/LC250 will give me my body back, at least in close up pictures.

My body is more chiseled than it used to be, but the diet that I used was a bit unpleasant.

First time I can remember seeing $70k on paper as top end price. Unless I'm forgetting it somewhere. Seems in line with what people were expecting for First Edition

I think I can see their pricing strategy, if $70K is for the limited run of First Edition trims. Comparable in price to the GX Overtrail, but comes with unique items like the 10-way leather seats and standard sliders that are not part of the Overtrail or Overtrail+. That leaves room under the GX Overtrail for the LC trim to come in the low $60’s.

Seems like it, perhaps, sets up the GX550h Overtrail (if they make one) at a slightly lower price than the 3.4L TT.

While they have confirmed the GX550 Hybrid is coming, perhaps the hybrid won’t make it to the Overtrail to avoid like-for-like cross shopping with the 5 passenger LC.

The fact is he hide some facts and it's a way to advertise the vehicle for the people who don't know much about the land cruiser.

He didn't say the real name which is land cruiser prado or in short prado.

He didn't mentioned that it has only one ekdss while the old Prado have front and rear kdss

He didn't say why there's no 3rd row and the reason is hybrid batteries

So while it's called a land cruiser that's mean the vehicle been underpowered
The predecessor Land cruiser 200: V8 365 hp
The new successor land cruiser 250 aka Prado: 4 cylinders hybrid 325hp

In the video he is trying to convince the audience that the land cruiser price been reduced while in the reality Prado prices been increased

This video is aimed at the North America market for North America consumers potentially buying the new North America spec Land Cruiser.

While a seasoned Land Cruiser enthusiast may know the LC250 as a Prado in some other markets, 99.9% of NA buyers will not have any clue what a Prado is. Given the name 'Prado' has never been used on a model in the US/Canada, they are understandably not about to start. As such, it's real name in the US is Land Cruiser, whether you, I, or anyone else likes it. I'll repeat myself, Toyota calls it a Land Cruiser. I don't know that we have the right or hubris to decide what it is or isn't. Turns out they created the name and get a put it on whatever they want, whether we love it or hate it. Early light duty models were called just Land Cruiser in many markets, history repeats itself.

Talking about specs previous non-US Prado models had is irrelevant for a North America video production aimed at North America customers of the North America spec Land Cruiser ;)

On the 3rd row or lack thereof, I may have talked about it not currently being there and the reasoning has been widely discussed here on the forum and by myself in different discussions. We filmed for two days to make the 8 minute video, far more was cut than used. It's hardly a secret. I was there on request of Toyota. The production company and Toyota worked out what information made it to the final cut, it wasn't expected or realistic for me to have any input on production content.

For those saying this was obviously a Toyota sponsored production. Of course it was, that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone based on me saying "I've been very fortunate to be asked by Toyota..." & "thanks AutoGuide and Toyota". AutoGuide also posted this with their announcement of the video. That should make things clear enough? :D

Scripted or not, this is how new vehicle intros work. The mere fact that TMS even had Kurt there is a testament to their commitment of FINALLY acknowledging the enthusiast market.

Instead of ignoring the off road subset and putting everyday journalist in the driver seat speaks loads. Why wasn’t Toyota this interested in us off-roaders when I bought my creme beige ‘86 standard cab short bed with white steelies? I sure would have liked to have TMS/TMC flaunt a rear locker at me then. But noo…I had to wait how many years for ATRAC while running an EZ locker up front and a Higashi-Fuji LSD in the rear.

Choices were slim then. These days Toyota, Lexus, GM, Ford, FCA all offer some cool packages that contain more than Bilstein shocks and a fender decal!

Kurt I appreciated your video, thanks for your effort!

I honestly hate the Prado name and wish they got rid of it all together like how they did for the US and how it has been in many countries.
It really is the only let down...Prado...such a buzzkill of a name.
I know they do it to differentiate it from the big LC, but I think it is already different enough.

The obvious assumption of the video was that Toyota made a vehicle available to an informed but biased fan for review. All could also reasonably assume that Toyota provided approved talking points and suggestions of which features to highlight. As with all such ‘reviews’, the viewer understands the context and knows enough to take the opinions with a grain of salt as only the positive will be emphasized. Fair enough – no harm, no foul – we are well use to it and continue to watch because there can be new information learned.

To now learn that it was nothing more than a highly scripted and over rehearsed official Toyota commercial is the height of cynical deceit, despite the addition of some vague lawyerly words. Being a rose colored glasses fan is one thing – this is something completely different. Given the official position here, all objective credibility is gone.

Many fan forums also benefit from official company representatives to answer questions and dispense information, but in every other case that relationship is out in the open.

Lol. Rehearsed? Scripted? I spent two days driving and talking about things on the new Land Cruiser based on a large list of questions the production company pulled from their probing of the Land Cruiser community via their forums (they don’t own Mud, but have offered to buy). As happens with all productions, they chose the stuff they felt was most relevant for the final cut. I’m shocked as many watched a 8 minute video. A 45 minute video of me blabbing simply wouldn’t work.

I am legitimately excited about both the LC250 and the GX550. I’ve spent enough time in/around both platforms on & off road to have an opinion that they are both going to do well in their respective markets. These platforms will do amazing things for the Cruiser community, many new TLCA and Land a cruiser/Toyota 4x4 club members. From a Land Cruiser business standpoint, this will be the biggest influx of Cruisers and customers we’ve seen in our companies 30+ year history.

It took a decade of sales for the 200/570 to really reach widespread popularity amongst the US Cruiser community and really the recent launch of the LC250 is the only thing that cemented it as a “real” Land Cruiser to many. When the 200/570 launched, community discussion was minimal at best, customer intent to purchase even lower. We are seeing drastic differences here.

Actual future buyers are very interested as evidenced by unprecedented demand at dealers for both models. I’ve personally been living full-time in the Land Cruiser community very full-time for over 25 years. From old Cruisers to brand new. The wants, needs & desires of a new Land Cruiser buyer is very different than those of a traditional Land Cruiser owner, many of which buy 10+ year old models.

The fact of was a Toyota commercial was never a secret. It literally says so at the beginning? Screen shot. There are no available vehicles yet for “independent reviews”.

I mean look at that.
Anyone even non car guys are going to stop and look at this.
It is eye catching. Cartoony, over the top? Maybe to some. It will turn heads for sure something the highlander sorry I mean 200 rarely did in stock form in the US.
A successful Land Cruiser in the US is going to be great ultimately for all Land Cruiser fans around the world because Toyota trying something less conservative styling wise and succeeding as a result will definitely give them the confidence to try more exciting things in the future.
