so are we calling this thing a land cruiser?

we call the 90 series a Prado
and get all out of shape when the FJ Cruiser is called an 'FJ'
we don't call the GX460 a land cruiser
some of the 70 series are called 'light duty'

just want to make sure

Toyota calls it a Land Cruiser. I don't know that we have the right or hubris to decide what it is or isn't. Turns out they created the name and get a put it on whatever they want, whether we love it or hate it.

The GX is a GX
The FJC is an FJ Cruiser

Had TMC wanted either of those to be called a Land Cruiser, they would have put the name on the side like they've done on all other Land Cruisers 😄

If you look very closely, it says "LAND CRUISER" on the back.

*runs and hides*

I love the "is it a LC or not" debate. In the same breath folks will talk about the superiority of Toyota and their TC, reliability, etc; then say that Toyota doesn't know what a "real" LC is. Some major mental gymnastics going on! Every time a new LC platform is introduced, the peanut gallery throws an absolute s*** fit. It's hilarious.

In Japan face and reputation are orders of magnitude more important than in most of the rest of the world. The Land Cruiser nameplate has a world-class reputation for being the best there is. As a result, Toyota would not put that nameplate on any vehicle that they were not confident would uphold that very high bar.

As a further result, what they think about it matters a whole lot more Than than any of us in the peanut gallery.

Great business model. Double the price of lift tickets AND sell ads for luxury goods!
Should be advertising in the lift lines and roadside billboards. That's where most of the time is spent skiing now. It's why we left Utah. When even skiing isn't fun anymore, it's time to go.

I want to know who this person is who thinks the 4Runner has 12" of ground clearance.
With 34" tires - 10.5" at the diff and 13 ish up front. 37s would get you there. But I'm not sure the 8.2 is up for 37s unless you shed 1k lbs. Id want to swap a 9.5, but then you need more like 38s to get to 12" at the diff. Tires on my fj40 are about 39" true height and with 9.5 axles it's about 12".

I find for my uses that there's diminishing returns and I don't think 40s give me much benefit over 37s. I think the lc250 would go anywhere I want to go with a big adventure wagon on 35s.

In a practical sense even measuring at the dif can be misleading as you normally wouldn’t be driving straight through a field of only 12” high obstacles.

It feels like a mental masturbation exercise when talking about clearance...as @Phillyd2 stated (edited for those who are on their first cup of cawfee) only an idiot would be driving through a boulder field at full throttle.

However, the owners of the new EV Cyber and Rivian trucks aren't really helping things *sigh*

At least the overlanding scene is catching on...

WAITTTTT.... Does this mean your avatar pic ain't you?

🤣.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH. What an awesome video, perfect length and to the points, and well made ! Thank you !!! 🫶🏽

Small Q: are the side bars sliders as in rock protective sliders, or just steps? Thinking if it will be one thing more to buy aftermarket or ready there ! Cheers, G.

The boss called them "rock rails".

As far as I can tell Toyota sells a "rock rail" for the 4Runner. Here's some discussion of those:

I crawled under to take a close look at the launch. They are not sliders by my definition nor does Toyota call them such. This is a disappointment for me as I’ll end up pulling them and replacing. Hoping I can buy a 250 without them but so far every indication is no based on what other features I’m interested in. Time will tell, but I see a Facebook marketplace listing for rock rails in my future.

Unfortunately No OEM can pass a side impact crash test with what we normally call rock slider. Normal rock slider good for protecting car body but bad for passenger protection in real side impact. They are way too strong and does not have any crumple zone.

This OEM slider are still designed to crumple on side impact but by design it looks like it would be strong enough to take medium hits from under. My only wish is it stick out more to give more side protection.

The fact is he hide some facts and it's a way to advertise the vehicle for the people who don't know much about the land cruiser.

He didn't say the real name which is land cruiser prado or in short prado.

He didn't mentioned that it has only one ekdss while the old Prado have front and rear kdss

He didn't say why there's no 3rd row and the reason is hybrid batteries

So while it's called a land cruiser that's mean the vehicle been underpowered
The predecessor Land cruiser 200: V8 365 hp
The new successor land cruiser 250 aka Prado: 4 cylinders hybrid 325hp

In the video he is trying to convince the audience that the land cruiser price been reduced while in the reality Prado prices been increased

Pretty sure Kurt has earned his spurs on land cruisers.

Lol yeah this vid was a good Toyota PR production I guess. Maybe I just don’t understand the approach here.

What are the specific competitors in mention?
